Now that's a better question. He didn't stay long. And by early 70s had relocated to Boulder, where he went to law school. Bounced back and forth to Gainsville, FL. ?Si?
Marathon great? Really? Frank Shorter never broke 2:10.
Meh.
Nearly all the greats went to Yale in the last 50 years:)
I wonder if Frank cares as much as I do to see Yale win a Heps cross country. It hasn't happened in 72 years but we were only 10 points away this year.
Rojo,
I remember Couch Young sharing the exact same story about the H-Y meet. Shorter just needed to get 3rd in the 5k, and Yale would have won the meet.
As an aside, I met Frank at a meet-and-great before the Boston Marathon one. I mentioned that Couch Young has lots of good stories on him (without mentioning the specifics of that one H-Y meet). Frank responded, "and they are all true." I found that funny.
Those of us who started running in that era knew it well. Also that he ran for the Florida Track Club while getting his law degree. FTC was a powerhouse during the early to mid 70's. Jeff Galloway, Barry Brown, Jack Bachelor, Byron Dyce and others.
The pie race at Mount Herman School.
Racing in panty hose in cold weather.
Going out for beers the night before the Munich marathon. [quote]
Um, Very well known
Also,
Rodgers and Amby Burfoot went to Weslyan (CT.)
If I see Yale or Princeton on a résumé I will be more likely to read it as opposed to the University of Dayton.

I doubt you get very many of those at the Jiffy Lube but they would be interesting to read.
