Look at the position Coe is in. He's worked tirelessly to rebuild his sport in his country. Not to mention the Olympic movement.

Paula is retired. Coe was once suspected of blood doping himself. The only acceptable public opinion a Coe and his ilk can have today is to be anti-drug. When, again, he was suspected, and Bubka, I mean, what are the odds Bubka was clean, pretty slim.

The sport is in the sad state of affairs where Coe, even if he was clean, has to obfuscate and cover up for a Paula. Once people like these travel in the same circles of economic success and insulation, they stroke each other and take care of each other. The rest of you are the outside world unwashed masses, consciously, or subconsciously, to them.
