That's a lot better than the other quote. And in fact, the other quote would have been good without the last two sentences. But it was those two last sentences that the OP praised.

So is it better if slower runners (or "joggers" if you insist it's not running) are trying to run/jog faster? Or would it make anyone feel better if people who are slower than a certain cut off time are simply trying to finish?

They're censoring him pointing out that those times aren't particularly lofty in a bit where he is criticizing the running industry for doing things to feed the egos of the casual runner, i.e., further demonstrating his thesis.

Take all the energy you're using to try and pick a fight (and a losing one at that) on this thread and put it into your training. You might even break 25 for 5K. Or you could just lighten up a bit and try smiling more.

It was the "best" quote because it was the most interesting quote.

The rest is your false inference. You can say it is the best quote without agreeing or disagreeing with it.

A. Keep working harder so that they can run faster?

B. Stop worrying about time and just enjoy running?

Okay, so you did not write it was best, but it was someone you were quoting. And even that persons did not state it was best because he agreed with Jones.

But why is that interesting? That's something you read every day on this board over and over. It just shows you Jones is another "has been" who is not satisfied with his current life as a runner. (Does he even run today?) Is that so interesting?

I found his opinion on massage, physical therapy, sports nutrition. etc. far more "interesting." That shows even more clearly how he cannot stop living in the past.

Let's see. Jones ran 2:07:13 without massage, physical therapy, sports nutrition. etc. Brits and US runners today are running what with massage, physical therapy, sports nutrition. etc.?

Of course it is a past when westerners were generally faster marathon runners than the present ones are.

His point, and the correct one, is that Jones wasn't simulating sleeping and living at 12,000' while training at sea level. Makes a big difference.
