I had a pretty good case of PF last year and picked up a pair of Cliftons, did the towel/toe raises, a baseball roll under my feet, and used castor oil. Some combination of that took care of it within about 3 months. Much of my running at that time was also on snowshoes. Read about castor oil on an old Runners World thread. Soak an old pair of socks in castor oil, put them on, put a couple plastic bags over your feet, and wear them for a half hour or so placing your feet on a heating pad. Seems to make the castor oil soak in and perhaps loosen the PF.
Stayed on the Cliftons after the PF disappeared and have put on more mileage than last year when the problems started. Your experience may vary and my medical diploma was from a box of cereal.
I also recommend Mizuno shoes for taking a dump. Much, much better than compression socks.
