Easily when you consider the guy has 12:50.

He could probably win the 1500, 5km and 10km these days only if it weren't for Kiprop being in such a beastly shape.

He could sit on Farah easily regardless of the pace and blast him the last 2 laps.

Remember the guy has run 7:23 at 3km. Had he run 5km more often, 12:45 or under would be reasonable just like 26:40.

Farah won the 2012 Olympic 5k+10k when his PR was still 3:34.

In 2013 he popped his first 3:28 right before Moscow Worlds. Did you expect him to say "hey guys, now that I have run 3:28, even though I am a virtual lock at the 5k and 10k, I'm going to switch to the 1500."

What would you do, tough guy? Change events 1 month before worlds just to be a manly man and race Kiprop?

Did you ever think about the fact that the 1500 is the bottom of Mo's range, whereas Kiprop can run a fast 8? Mo ran like 2:08 for the marathon in his first attempt, do you think Kiprop, Centro, Mak daddy, Willis, etc. etc. etc. could run 2:08 in infinite attempts? Absolutely not. Which is why we need to admit that....

...Mo is a 5k/10k guy with EXCEPTIONAL 1500 ability. Get over it. He's not being a chicken, he's dominating his events. He is the first person to complete the triple-double at the 5k/10k, WHY THE HELL WOULD HE EVER STOP??? He has literally no reason and no incentive to change events.

I think there's some inherent bad logic in here.

If a guy who was a 1500m specialist had a PR of 3:28 and then was "trained as a 10,000m runner" he would no longer be able to run 3:28. Farah is actually a 10,000m runner that is training like a high-volume 1500m runner because Salazar puts emphasis on championship racing and knows that a sustained, 800-1600m surge to end a race is most important. That's why Farah can't run sub 26:40 and can't sniff sub 26:30.

TL;DR, Farah is not a 1500m runner being trained as a 10,000m runner, he's a 10,000m runner being trained as a 1500m runner.

El G walked down a prime Bekele I think he could handle Mo

People love to underestimate Farah on here. Yes he may not be likeable, his rise since joining salazar is certainly suspicious, races with him in are very predictable, but come on, he is quite clearly more than a 1500m runner who can also run 5/10k.

He is capable of much faster than 12.53. More likely 12.42-12.45. I imagine he is aware he's not quite capable of a WR, and all a WR attempt would do is highlight that he's not quite at the level that Geb/Bekele were.

Sure. El G took down an in-his-prime Bekele in the Olympics. I was thinking an in-his-prime Lagat could also beat Farah at 5k. Neither of them could beat Farah at 10k, though. That's too far for a miler.

It would be close. El G showed in the '03 WC and '04 Olympic 5k that he can kick really well off a fast or slow pace. Wasn't his last lap in the Olympics a 52? I'd bet on El G to beat Farah 4/5 races.

That's just not true. Think about it this way, what would happen if Kiprop tried to race the 5000m or 10000m against Farah? Farah would destroy him.

People that think Farahs best event is the 1500m only think that because he has run a fast time. He has never attempted to run really fast times in the 5k/10k, that doesn't mean he is incapable. His best event is probably the 5000m, indicated by his 1500m speed, 8:03 2 mile and his half marathon endurance.

He means 2M is not an indoor event recognized by the IAAF, so therefore it can only be called a world "best", not a world record.
