Former Balco mastermind names three drugs that athletes are using for 'huge' gains in performance. One is IGF-LR3, which apparently can be taken the SAME DAY as competition, as there is no good test for it (Aduck has been talking about this for long time). The other is 'the lightness' which is a thyroid med (Liothyronine), and the third is adrenaline or epinephrine (anybody remember rumors of Mo's adrenaline vials in London??).

According to Conte, these three drugs are easily used and can greatly help with neuromuscular abilities. In other words, they are of tremendous benefit in events requiring speed, acceleration and general explosiveness. Anybody notice anything strange in the 400, 400 hurdles, 100 and 200??

And on the subject of IGF, as it is one of the ways HGH works its magic, we still have an extremely ineffective test for HGH which catches almost nobody with a brain, as it is very easy to take it in the evening and test negative the next morning.

He's completely relevant. He was the guy that evaded testers, that facilitated tremendous performances (Tim Montgomery's 100m WR, Kelli White's transformation, etc.), and learned the inside-outs of elite doping. He knows how to beat the system because he's helped athletes do it. He's seen firsthand just how many athletes, coaches, trainers, agents, doctors, teams, institutions and federations are in on the cheating epidemic. If anybody is relevant, it's him.

Clearly you have watched too many formulaic crime shows where the guy they get to testify knows "the key to it all". It ain't like that, and clearly you did not read much about the people who tried to get straight answers out of Conte. Sure, he helped some of the most stupid athletes cheat. But he is not the expert he makes himself out to be. But if it makes you feel good to follow the media circus, go ahead. I'd rather be looking for some young biochemists who are not convicted felons, who have been properly trained, and get them passionate about catching the cheaters and their helpers.

well yea, but the best chemists are on the dark side. that's why the testers and never ahead of the tested.

Nowadays.....Lie detectors are extemely accurate and could be used in sports. Once a runner wins a big race or runs a record pace, he would be sent to a panel of 3 lie detector companies situated at the meet. The runner is in and out in 15 minutes and then we have THE TRUTH. The legal profession doesn't want you to know how good the machines are as many lawyers and judges would be on the unemployment lines.

400m - Obvious explosion here. Heats being run in sub 44?! Huge central/south African improvement

800m - Amel Tuka 1min46.1 to 1min42.5 and WC medal, Boris Berrian 1min48 to 1min43

1500m - Dibaba breaks WR of universally accepted drug cheat that had broken the record of universally accepted drug cheat. Oh and slams 7 seconds off her PR in process. Kiprop becomes 3rd man ever under 3min26 - only El G (from EPO era) and Lagat (caught cheat) are now ahead

I smiled when I read this. My completely speculative guess/stance has been there is a non-aerobic boosting (by that I mean a drug like EPO that helps 1500m-marathon or the more aerobic events) one-day super booster out there and Conte says this. Classic

They could get ephedrine if they wanted to.

Amphetamine salts, ritalin, and even meth come in many forms and are more than a better enough substitute for ephedrine. Modafanil is good too but not the same as those.

I would imagine they are using something like modafanil.

If, in fact, athletes are able to use injected epinephrine (adrenalin) without failing a drug test--this is very, VERY potent stimulant. I've had epinephrine injections before, due to asthma attacks.

While the experience was not "pleasant"--an extreme version of the fight or flight response, lasting for an hour or so (subcutaneous injections yield the longest half-life, followed by IM injections; both of which are far more prolonged than IV injections or inhalation) is nothing like the high one gets with the "fun" stimulants amphetamine or cocaine--I did feel like I possessed superhuman strength, determination and focus.

amphetamines work as an epinephrine substitute, so obviously if they're just shooting up epinephrine and getting away with it, that could have a pretty dramatic effect.

It would be pretty funny if it was all that simple.

victor conte is right,im afraid.its been a very strange championships all over,in most evens.athletes have always used drugs,but the drugs now are even more effective than previous ones.
