Was Simpson losing her shoe the best thing that could have happened to her?

Let's be honest regardless of whether or not her shoe fell off their is no way she could have closed anywhere near 1:57, I believe her 800 pr is 2 flat. I'd much rather be in her position and have an excuse for her poor performance unlike Rowbury who simply couldn't hang with the top runners. In Simpson's post race interview she didn't seem bitter at all, I think she herself knew she didn't have the wheels for that last 400.

I was impressed by how gracious and upbeat Jenny remained during what must have been severe disappointment. She is a great competitor. The fact that most people did not even notice her lose her shoe just demonstrates her guts in continuing to race. I would have loved to have seen what two-shoe Jenny could have done over those last two laps.

This is why she is one of my favorite athletes, gracious, thankful and a fierce competitor. Great example of all.

This should have been an advantage, no more weight to carry on that foot, better and faster stride rate.

Ok. I saw none of that on my feed and thought she just fell apart when the pace picked up. Losing a shoe explains why she fell of so fast.

Not saying she would have been competing for the win or anything but she at least would have made a better attempt to close the race.

And yes if you look 2009 NCAAs XC. She flopped in that race. She was the favorite and finished 163rd with some bizarre story. She also literally fell to the ground

It's not even the first time she's lost a shoe in a championship race. The same thing ruined her 2007 NCAA champs steeple bid as well. She's a great competitor, but she's also choked a few times. 2004 Foot Locker XC and 2009 NCAA XC champs come to mind.

"I'm way overpaid" as a Former champion and the competitor that she is you know when Jenny steps on the track she is going to compete with all she's got. She will be back and doing the same thing for years to come. Competitors like her are only a handful in each event.

It's the timing chip that's attached to the back of the bibs. The top adhesive must have fallen off.
