He is the greatest steeplechaser ever.

We could argue for Brimin Kipruto - 2nd fastest ever by .01 at 7:53.64. Actually he said he had no clue he was on WR pace in Monaco.

Also Kirputo has longevity just like Kemboi

Your logic is bad. Anyone who uses "if he could, then he would" as an argument is of low intelligence. Running a 2nd tier event means that he will be dominant and have more chances of medaling and winning. It's the same thing as Farah not competing in the 1500.

He hasn't not medalled at a major championship only ONCE in the past 12 years. Also all of his WC medals that aren't gold are silver. He rises to the occasion basically every time. I'm not sure how he couldn't be the greatest of all time. He doesn't need the WR to have that title. He may not be the fastest of all time, but he damn well is consistently the best. GOAT whuddup

Think about this between Kemboi and Kipruto

They have to survive their own trials to get to a major championship.

So combine the two sets of results and for the past 13 years these two guys have dominated one of the most cut throat events at there own trials and have gone on to do amazing things at the international level.

There is a world championship in the steeplechase. There's not one for the flat 3000. So how is steeple a "2nd tier event"?

You picked "top 5" because he is 6th fastest all-time with his 7:55.76?

Shaheen would also be a reasonable choice for GOAT because of the number of 7:53-7:56 times he ran and because he did beat Kemboi in Helsinki 2005 after not being allowed to run in the 2004 Olympics.

The Oregon boys need to run in hot weather heading into championship races where they know the temperature will provide a stiffer test than anything they'll encounter in bell-bottoms land. They wilted. They also need to NOT take literally three weeks or more off from competition. That said, Rupp was in it almost all the way, and Jager hung on for a long time. Jager literally needed a faster race as well. Rupp wilted in the elements.

Symmond blew a great shot at a medal. The US women are tougher than the US men, even when competing against third world athletes that the powers that be will give a wink and a nod when it comes to cheating.
