Having watched the NFL since the early 70s, I can honestly say if today's group of QBs played under 1970s rules -- where every team played man coverage and a DB could basically mug a receiver until the ball was in the air -- their TD/INT ratios wouldn't look as pretty as they do now.

The Trent Dilfer comparison is ridiculous. Stabler was league MVP one year. Are there any other players who were MVP and aren't in the Hall of Fame? Honest question.

Stabler did not get along with the media. He really didn't care about his image and did not play the game. Finebaum has even ragged on Stabler publicly.
Stabler deserves to be in the HOF. Sally of course never played football anyone that has looks at more then stats.

Clutch. Two minutes left, 80 yards to go he wanted then ball. After Montana, I'd pick Stablerto lead me to the endzone!

Interesting list. Ken Anderson is the only other one that merits some consideration, but he was never great in the clutch.Now that RUSH is in the Rock n Roll HOF, Stabler not being in Pro Football HOF may be the greatest injustice (Pete Rose is, but he's not even eligible).

Two points (significant ones, albeit)....
1) Forget whose stats these are - 192 TDs (thereabouts) and 226 INTs - would you want that person in the HOF?
2) Those who keep on harping about different era - that is true but that is only going to matter on number of TDs and Yards - not the TD/INT ratio - which Stabler's was abysmal.

I agree with you that he should be in the HOF. But quoting TEAM records as if they belong to the INDIVIDUAL is nonsense (just as is won-loss record in baseball which thankfully most people seem to have finally figured out).
My last comment on this....1977 is year Oakland won with Stabler. He had 20 TDs and 20 INTs - that is with Bilintekoff, Dave Casper and Cliff Branch. That team had 5 - I repeat 5 Hall of Famers with 2 other finalists - Guy and Madden. That team was loaded. Stabler was merely serviceable just as Trent Dilfer was with a dominating defense as too was Jim McMahon and the '85 Bears.
