I believe 3 have broken 1:42 - Coe, Cruz, and Kipketer.

The article states his team see the day when Yuriy can run each 200m in 25 secs for a 1:40.00, okay to me that is the beginning of psychological tactics in hope of getting Yuriy and his competitors to see him on another level! There is nothing wrong with it Said Aouita did it for many years and Kenenisa Bekele also started using mind games to a degree a few years ago. Do I believe Yuriy can run 1:40.00-NO I don't but I do think in time he can run 1:41 and maybe even close to the current world record if he stays in athletics and not encounter any major injuries!
But in my opinion 1:40.00 isn't possible for him or any other already established elite runner in the current crop of 800m runners!

It it not going to happen. He has the speed as many before him. But there is a tradeoff between 400m and 800m, the latter
becoming an endurance event.
El Caballo had 44.26 for the 400m and wasn't even close.
Bengel
Two men who was faster than that but didn't give the 800m more than a handful of attempts and never trained for it was Danny Everett (43.81-400m) and Kevin Young (only man under 47 sec in 400 Hurdles)! They were teammates at UCLA and ran a handful of 800m w/ personal best under 1:50! If ever a man had the speed it was Danny Everett but after his younger teammate Steve Lewis won Olympic Gold, Danny medaled in the 400m (both Gold in the 4x400m), and Kevin won his Gold all slowly slipped out of the track and field. So Bengel you are right speed is very important in the 800m but it takes more than just speed to break 1:42 and especially with what Yuriy wants to do to the record!

Anyone who do you think will break Wilson Kipketer's record and when?
The thing about Boris is that he's never really tried to run fast. I can't recall a single meet that was a set-up for him to PB. Imagine a series of races where he was 'willing' to go with the leaders (and risk a blow-up) in a WR attempt.
Of the current crop of runners he is by far the most likely, not least because there he is still an unknown quantity and his raw speed at is obvious.
I think the incessant comparisons to Coe are unwarranted. Coe was a 8/15 guy, Boris is a 8 guy. To state that Boris needs Coe's speed endurance over 1500m before he can run faster over 800m is flawed. Kipketer never broke 3'30" for 800m. In fact his PBs are listed as
1500m - 3.42.80 min
400m - 46.85
...which are a LOT slower than Coe. I'm sure Kipketer could have run faster over 1500m but he had nothing like Coe's ability over 1500m yet he managed over 1/2 second faster in the 800m.
