I think you are correct in that Magness is delusional his scientific theories that made sense on paper didn't make practical sense in execution with the athletes. Magness works hard to push his agenda of knowledge.
The "printed version" of an email is no more authentic or original than a cut and paste job on a website.
And with regard to Magness and his "scientific theories," the guy has always been first and foremost about what work in practice. He tinkers a bit, but for the most part, his approach is not that different from Canova's or Hudson's.
Houston's distance program was pretty much an afterthought at a sprint dominated school prior to Magness getting hired. I am not sure that the school would have needed Nike's blessing on hiring a distance coach when the school was dedicating minimal resources towards the distance program. Magness was probably a good find in that he could recruit some decent runners thanks to the popularity of his blog, but was a first time college coach and would work for peanuts.
I also wonder whether Al Sal and Magness went toe to toe on training issues or whether it was as it appears in the original post (i.e. Al Sal being a bully). Magness spends tons of time on his science of sport stuff and is not one to be deferential to anyone on subjects he considers himself to be an expert.
I am still not sure whether Al Sal simply is an overzealous coach who tries to find every possible advantage within the rules who made a career out of occupying the gray areas in the rules or whether Al Sal is a flat out cheat who basically picked up where the US Postal team doping strategy left off (microdosing v. flagrant doping and dodging doping tests/paying off officials).
Nike, as the most powerful entity in the sport, could do so much to promote a drug-free sport simply by not hiring athletes who dope or who have coaches/agents with doping connections. Instead they do the opposite.

The Nike brand is all about winning. We put our swoosh on winners - buy our products, wear the swoosh, feel like a winner. Very simple, seems to work very well, doesn't matter to them what means you use to reach that end [as long as you don't get caught so far on the wrong side of a line that you get disqualified, at which point you're no longer a winner.]

Yeah, unfortunately that seems to be the attitude. It's sad. When you look at most Diamond League distance races 90% or more of the athletes have Nike singlets on -- they've won the war. Nike could more or less guarantee that 90% of the athletes in the field were clean. Instead, they go with the cutthroat approach. I am beginning to see Salazar as less a rogue coach overstepping bounds than one who is simply enthusiastically embracing the company line -- win (legally or illegally) at all costs.
The entire Nike Sports Marketing group at Nike is like this and it is a rite of passage to threaten and insult other athletes, coaches and agents.
For example, Llewellyn Starks still works at Nike and signs athletes:

Capriotti has a fake mafia and it is bad for the sport. He hired Alberto for a reason.

This is ridiculous. These threads need to be bumped more often. Al Sal is the Armstrong of track and field.[/quote]
That is so true is more ways than just the professional behaviour.
USATF + IAAF support is like the program getting their own tailwind.
Thom Wiesel owns the American cycling federation that was supposed to enforce the sport's rules. Similarly, USATF will not harm their secret sponsorship deal.
The idea that there's any "sport" in the sport at NOP and above is becoming just as obvious as it is in cycling.
Thank you, the point I was looking for, the email is invalid, worthless.
2nd point thank you again. Maybe his tinkering was beyond the boundaries of legal and he was being warned. As you know Magness is young and has yet to really shown knowledge, experience and results at an elite level as Canova or Hudson.
I'm no AlSal fan but let's be honest here. He is the head coach. The training is his to decide. If an assistant does things contrary to this emails get sent. They keep it up and they eventually have to go.
Head coach is the boss. HS, college, Pros... You need to know where you are on the O chart.

So when the walls come crumbling down in a few months, can we expect you'll come back and admit how wrong you were?

No, he will be gone. The NOP paychecks will cease. Their jobs will be DONE.

Wow, didn't know Llewellyn Starks still worked there. T&F has serious problems.
Bingo!! We have a winner.I used to work for/with nike and they are a "f*ck you, we are nike" mindset. Privately racist, arrogant and win at all cost. They are the most powerful entity in sport but idiot blacks, the clueless public and the sports agents keep them there.

Magnets is gonna look like jackass if it turns out Salazar is telling the truth.

Don't hold you breath. Salazar already looks like a jackass and will continue to look like a jackass.

I hate to break it to you, but email is trusted. people believe in email.
Let's talk about you and what you feel would constitute 'proof' Al Sal doped kids, and is running a doping program. Be specific.
Does NOP's PR agency pay well?

Him and the Gouchers. Plus the massage therapist guy. And the 13 or so other NOPers who have come forward so far. Plus David Epstein. And the other ProPublica and BBC journalists. Don't forget Magness's camera phone and his email account, they're also lying. Goucher's bottle of Cytomel tells a tall tale too. Exactly how many people are in on the conspiracy now? Must be hard being the sole beacon of truth in this whole thing.
