Seriously. In his last 12 DL 5000M races going back all the way to 2010 he has run every race between that band of time. Maybe nobody cares, but I find that fact interesting. Both for good and bad. On one hand he has never run faster than 12:58 and the likes of Ritzenheim still hold a better 5000M time. That is kind of surprising at this stage of Rupp's career. On the other hand we saw last year he took time off for training to see to the birth of his kids, yet still came back and ran faster than 13:10. I find that impressive.
don't really know, but maybe his training isn't geared for full out personal best, but for the ability to run for medals. Training for endurance to run an prelim and a final. And training for the ability to race at a very fast pace(13 flat) but kick sub 55 400 finish.

His epic race with DDR's Hans Joerg Kuntze for Silver Medal at OG '88 behind Nguigi was classic.
Baumann can still be seen with TV commentary on certain German marathon races..

I see. So you read that post and said 'this guy means the training is designed to win multiple medals or is a failure'. Come on. Medaling once is pretty damn hard unless you are the most talented. No one thinks Rupp is the most talented.
Hasn't panned out? An Olympic silver medal, I call that major success.
When you back it up with a 26:44, that's sort of decent too.
As for Rupp's 5000 time at Pre, I'm betting he's more interesting in winning the race than running for time.
He'll get the mark he needs for worlds in the process of running a competitive race.
Honestly, Rupp's Legacy is solid already. I'm not worried what he does. He could retire today as the best American 10k runner ever. I would love to see him continue to set PR's and maybe grab a medal, but if he is on the backside of his career, then whatever, he's had a great run.

Yes we've all heard of Billy Mills. Your not honestly going to try to compare Billy Mills to Galen Rupp. I love Mills, but Galen would lap Mills in a 10k and still run a faster last lap. Rupp silver in 2012 > Mills Gold in 1968.
