well i have a runoff of this question. the dumbest thing one of your coaches ever said. i have one assistant coach that delt out a real winner about a month ago. he was rippin our asses about how we're not soldiers, or tough like soldeirs. He yelled, "the war is in kuwait, not here!". we were all like uuuggghhh, you mean iraq?

That's funny. Whenever I watch a race with my mom she always thinks it's unfair that they make the pacemaker drop out because they could obviously have won if they had carried on...

I was at the doctor because my foot was hurting, but not so bad that I couldn't run.
So he is going over some questions.
"How many times to you exercise per week?"
"Um, I run about 7-10 times and lift weights"
"How far do your run each time?"
"Uh, probably five to fifteen miles."
Doctor is taking notes, looks at the chart. Looks at my foot real carefully.
"I think your foot hurting might be caused by your running."
"I want my co-pay back."
My foot healed on its own.
Did you win?

He ran years ago at ND, ok runner- I too dont understand the fascination with an average runner. Must be a small clique thing here on lets run.

That's a classic Pedro. Obviously from my name, I'm not a runner but an avid Track Fan. Just once (and I would pay good money to see this) I would love to see the pacemaker just go for it. I would love to see the lactic acid buildup, the proverbial brick wall and tons of weight strapped to the back look. Plus, it would put to rest that little belief in my mind that somewhere, somehow at sometime, some dude is just gonna take off and pull the race of his life out of his ass.

I'm dead serious. Some freshman asked me this at the begining of the season. I almost threw up. He's a funny kid though, turned out to be a great runner. But I had to spend about 20 minutes explaining it to him. Christ...

I had just finished a hard workout on the track and a guy pulled me over and told me I could run faster if I ran more even. I was doing a fartlek.

How about Sammy Korir, runner up to Paul Tergat in his world record marathon win in Berlin last year? He was one of Paul's pace makers but decided to stay in the race and only run the second fastest marathon EVER, only losing by under 2 seconds.
Tergat: 2:04.55

And hell, you didn't even have to pay any money to watch the race from the sidewalks!
