You know I have no idea how Fed's collegiate career went but he was certainly a HS phenom and I do know he went into coaching athletes later on in his life... I was in FWB recently to catch up with old friends, the area is no longer the sleepy hollow it was in the late '70s. Shalimar has even grown in a big way.
Sarah:
It is 'definitely'. As in "the condition of being definite", no definat. Learn it.
Not me, but Robert Kibet from Kenya who ran 1,43 at 800 some 15 years ago. He was then asked if he was going to beat Sebastian Coe's WR. He repleid: "Who is he?"
Some 15 y.o. Ethiopian living in some remote region who probably runs a 29 minute 10km to school and back each day.

sarah, I'd guess maybe 1% of the Letsrun readers have ever seen an issue of NMN. She was nominated for the Sullivan award this year.
Grr I hate having my spelling corrected, don't you have anything better to do than go through posts and be petty....Millions of words get typed on these threads hence millions of typos I definitely think so :o)

I really couldn't tell you the name of the best runner I've never heard of because well, I've never heard of him/her.

Dathan Ritzenhein. Pretty good talent. Look him up.
Salazar was at the University of Oregon not UTEP. Get your facts straight. Oh forgot your from Canada. That explains it.
look up a guy from US called Alan Webb might help you?
i think considering hes a WR holder, Daniel Komen is very unheard of, nowhere near the respect of Kipketer, El Guerrouj, Bekele, Gebreslassie etc... (the other MD-LD record holders)
Lance Armstrong.
the kid from kenya who didnt make it out of training camp, then had bad luck and died from malaria

I've also heard of Phil Raschker as I'm sure most of the over-40 Letsrun posters have. I think of her more for her success in field events although she is awesome in sprint events, too.
