Soratos ran like a man, Cheserek like a coward

Zero props to "King Ches" for drafting like a gutless turd. Share the pace like a man or get off the track. Funny, my impression of the race was the opposite of yours. Soratos tried to jump the field after a slow first quarter. He ran like a scared little girl trying to surprise everyone. Cheserek took the best Soratos had to offer, like a man, while the rest of the field was surprised and fell off the pace. When it was time for the real manly part of the race, the kick, Cheserek dropped the hammer and left all of the little children behind. It's all fun and games until it is time for the men to race.

I really didn't think his strategy was that bad. The 53 was a bit much, but he tried to turn this into a 1k race. I bet he thought he could beat Ches over 1k. The issue is that with a 53, he essentially ran an 800m race yet had to hang on for the other 200m, which he couldn't do.

Cowardice is not competing. Call me old-fashioned, but I respect #1, 2, and even 3 in the nation. And abhor racebaiting. Letsrun could be so much more.

You must be a confused little boy. I think Cheserek ran like a man. He won. I was cheering for Soratos to beat him but I thought his tactics were flawed. Congrats to Cheserek for running like a man. You don't get a medal for running stupid. Great race nonetheless!

That's so boring, if he was a real king like Keninisa Bekele or Gebresellasie he could win w/ any strategy, but as of now, he's done nothing at all to show me he's a king, Lawi was more of king than he was

These arguments are getting silly. Soratos and Cheserek both gave it their best shot. Neither one was a coward. You're not brave to lace up spikes and run a race; its just sport, not storming the gates of Babylon. Soratos ran like a man. Cheserek ran like a cat out of hell.

LosersRant.com could be so much more but it's basically a bunch of whining ninnies complaining about Oregon, NOP, Nike, etc. The posers on this post, and the MBs in general, make baseless accusations about doping, attack tactics and perform character assassination and spout a lot of racist crap when "their" runner loses.

The simple truth on this one is Soratos attempted a pretty unique, and while possibly gutsy, a demonstrably flawed strategy. How that makes Cheserek, a guy entered in 3events vs. Soratos' one event, a coward is beyond stupid.

Pretty sure you're right, but I'd have had more respect for you if you'd followed your gut and not responded at all. As it is, you were had just like everyone else.

Ughh. All the BS starts. I am a big Soratos fan (partly because I work at Montana State (not on the coaching staff). When I'm training I often see the team's workouts, and I've seen how hard Soratos works (in a group of men and women who all know how to grind it out).

But why hate on Cheserek? Listen to Soratos' interview, where he has the maturity to say that he did everything he could but the better racer won on the day (and he's looking forward to a rematch outdoors!).

the only cowards were #'s 4-last, who didn't even try to keep up. Cheserek stuck right with him. If he ran only one race, like Soratos, maybe he could and should have pulled a Prefontaine and went to the front from the beginning. He's definitely got that Oregon/Salazar calculative rationality going. He won't lead a race until he thinks he can bring it home the last 200-400m. No extra lost energy.

Let's see if Soratos learns from indoors and applies a different strategy outdoors. Personally I think Soratos should have applied a lead-from-the-start strategy and run just fast enough to hold off all comers until it comes down to the kick-o-rama. We still don't really know which guy is the best kicker of the two.

I'm pretty sure we know.

Courage is going with the guy trying to get away. Chen could easily have sat back and figured "eh, he'll come back to me." That would have lost the race. Ches ran like a man and went with the hard move, and at the end of the day he was simply a better runner.

Soratos did the best thing possible...to beat everyone but Ches. And Ches if he should have a bad day, which he doesn't anymore.

The fact that Soratos didn't blow up and get 4th is a huge win in my book.

Yeah and ches has the same number of NCAA titles as you and me...

Oh wait, no, he has 6 and only a sophomore. 3 sub 4 miles and he gets outkicked by his teammate who dropped a 25 last 200? So everyone that has ever sat and kicked is a gutless racer? Check your facts, jack... every champion sits and kicks at some point in their life
