First off: that is a complete BS thing for someone to say, especially a teammate.

Secondly: I still believe Jenkins won that fair and square. Ches was locking up.

These boys are gonna be settling this many times over the next ten years and it's going to be a lot of fun to watch.

Well, Cheserek was in a position to know. As suggested by another poster, wejo or whoever is there needs to ask Jenkins what he thinks.

Then Jenkins and Cheserek can discus on the way back to Eugene.

Jenkins was sillky smooth.

Think about it this way. In a world championship 5000 final, you'd never expect the guy who won the 1500 final the same day to beat guys who were fresh so I think Jenkins very well still might have won.

It was a little hard to understand Cheserek’s exact quote (my best stab is below), but he essentially said he let Jenkins take it at the end of the race:

“When I saw my teammate coming over, I was like “let him take it” because he’s my teammate, we’re not rivals. We’re just trying to score as many points as we can.”

With that said, my thoughts are as Robert expressed earlier. I think Cheserek was going close to all-out, but when he saw it was Jenkins passing him on the outside, he didn’t bother to put up a fight.

It is up for debate who would have won if Cheserek put up a fight. I think his mindset changes because he would have been more wary of where exactly Jenkins was. I think Jenkins would have won based on how late he passed Cheserek in the race but if Jenkins wasn’t a teammate, I think Cheserek would have been a lot more concerned at the end about whether he was close or not.

Ches's arms are flailing and Jenkins is totally calm about to unleash it the last 40.

Then look after the race. Ches doesn't look real thrilled.

Ches may have not gone to the well but he was shocked Jenkins was there and it's easier to 'let the guy win' when you've got doubts and a 2:19 1k in your legs.

That's 'Soratos'. And yes, whichever race came second was the one where it was going to happen. When Christian Soratos took off and ran a 26 then just kept the hammer down, the die was cast.

have yet to watch the interview with ches, but watching it live it looked like jenkins would have had it even without ches letting up.

that said, does anyone on this board know jenkins? not that it matters, but he seems a bit...well, unlikeable in my book every time he's interviewed. maybe it's just the oddly nasal new hampshire voice, but he just seems like kind of a turd.

but back to athletic ability, if the guy can close in 25.8, what is his top-end speed like? i know these are the best distance runners, but crazy that guys that never really seemed to be speedsters can close so fast. strength matters of course, but there is some very raw speed evident.

not sure if it's something about the strength training but oregon seems like the best place to develop a kick.

You don't need raw speed to finish sub 26 in races. Strength trumps speed when it comes to kicking. There is nothing more common than fast guys who can't kick.

What's the point of letting your team mate "take it" if you're only then going to turn around and "take it back" by saying you let him win? I'd be a bit ticked off if I were Jenkins. If he truly did let him win, then keep your mouth shut about and congratulate your team mate.

Can we agree that Solinsky and Rupp had similar success in HS? Solinsky has 3 5,000m marks faster than Rupp's PR and was the first American under 27 minutes. Rupp has stayed healthy throughout his career, yet you are incredibly suspicious of his results, but not Solinsky's?! Give me a fu*king break.

Many, many kudos to Jenkins, Ches, and Oregon. No affiliation with Oregon, but that was exciting and I do think Jenkins was the going to win that race regardless. He looked amazing on the backstretch of the final lap.

What you don't see on broadcasts and interviews is how these guys are together when they hang out before or after races, cooling down together.

Every single one of them are nice college dudes.

Not everyone is comfortable in front of a camera at that age, btw...

Jenkins will have a chance if Cheserek runs another race earlier in the day. That is not the stuff of a good rivalry.
