We are in a similar boat. I am 34, wife, job, etc and want a 3:10, but my times are slower than yours. My 5k is 19:20 and recent (12/14) marathon PR is 3:30. Prior to now, I averaged 35 miles per week, at most.
What keeps getting enforced via these boards is running more weekly miles has a major part in making you faster. I am also doing speedwork now for the first time ever. I am getting up to 50/wk, with 5-6 at 5k pace, 7-8 at tempo, the rest easy although sometimes I will throw MP into the long run.
