I just checked Oregon's current roster. It is quite sick indeed:
Current Ducks with their mile PR's: Ed Cheserek 3:56.43; John Gregorek 3:57.47; Daniel Winn 3:57.62; Will Geoghegan 3:58.04; Eric Jenkins 3:58.11; Jeramy Elkaim 3:59.18; Colby Alexander 3:59.69. A couple others are on the cusp: Sam Prakel 3:41.01 (1500 meters) and Niki Franzmair 3:42.65 (1500 meters). So there are nine (9) current Ducks with sub 4 or sub 4 equivalents.
13 sub-4 in one meet, indoor record looks like Husky Classic 2010.
11 sub-4 is one race indoor record (Boston Indoor Games 2006)
36 sub-4s in one day, verifying if a record.

3:42.65 is not a sub 4 equivalent.
What is the mile equivalent? In my day, we always figured 3:43 was the equivalent.
3:42.2 is normally considered the equivalent to a 3:59.9 miles. Franzmair's 3:42.7 is about a half second off, but considering he is a young freshman, I would say he can easily run a 4 minute mile in the near future.
So, you may not be exactly right, but Oregon does have at least 8 sub 4 milers on their squad this year. Seems like It is the year of the milers in college this year.

Jenkins and Will G. finished off their last 1600 in 4:02 and 4:03 respectively in that 3000m. So they came very close to going sub 4 yesterday anyway... (Of course, they both have gone sub 4 in the past).
In addition, the 3 Oregon guys that ran the mile yesterday are now 1, 2 and 3 on the Oregon indoor mile list... All 3 going faster than Mac Fleet's school record.
Are they all peaking too soon or will they all run sub 3:35 come June...
I seriously doubt those Oregon guys are peaking too early. The Oregon program has a rep for peaking later than most, and at Championship races, and I see no reason to doubt that is the case again this year. Let's recognize that most of the Oregon runners haven't raced more than once or twice this Winter.

This year seems a little different... 3 guys have already run the indoor mile faster than Rupp, Centro, Wheating, Acosta, Fleet... did when they were in school...
2 other guys have run the indoor 3000m faster than any Oregon runner ever has (except for Rupp). I'm also quite sure that they would have both run faster than Rupp did, in a better paced race...
That's a lot of guys running really fast without any of them peaking...

You could have 4 guys do it every year for 50 years and have only 50 guys do it.
That's one new one a year, not one a year in general. Big difference.
Of course, hadn't really thought that through. Less than one new guy a year seems a little sparse since it seems that lately they have 3 or 4 new ones a year. It would be nice to see stats on this by year.

How did this thread become all about Oregon? Those Hoyas are dirty. 4 guys under 4, plus you got Cole Williams who split 2:52 in the 12 and Billy Ladder who is a 1:47 guy. Boys are deep in the mid-d, son.

If they already have 4 guys under 4, they are probably peaking too early, as they don't have the raw talent that Oregon has.
All 4 of the Georgetown guys that broke 4 were faster than Gregorek and Winn in high school. Are you sure about that talent comment? I agree they are not as talented as Cheserek. Bile ran 4:04 in high school.
who is coaching these Georgetown guys? Is it Brandon Bonsey or is it still Pat Henner?
could it be Henny Henn Hen? I can't remember them boys rolling like this in the past.
Regardless of who is coaching Georgetown's milers, it is nice to have someone to push the Oregon runners. The better the competition, the faster they all will run. It seems that Georgetown may be on to the same type of system that they are using at Oregon--having enough quality runners to push each other on their daily workouts.
Push Oregon? Georgetown men (aside from A Bumbi) have blown up at nationals for at least the last decade.
Let's wait to see if these guys don't vomit on their gray and navy singlets before we make wild claims. Nothing against the current crop btw, super impressive early season running, but history tells me they won't be competing for the DMR title and the milers won't be in the final.
That's because the last decade of guys were, on the whole, soft (with a few exceptions like Bumbi and LBP). I know, because I was one of 'em. But these Hoya men are hard-nosed badasses. They are gonna unleash hell at nats, I guarantee it.
