Weightlifting and powerlifting are totally different.
I went from a miler, to a quarter miler, to weightlifting for 1 or 2 years (280# c&j @ 146 lbs), then to road races and marathons after not running for 5 years. My weight went from 138 to 143, 146, then back to 137 with the miles and a change in diet.
Almost all of my training for weightlifting was from single lifts, and no reps.
