I doubt that any NFL player could do it without doing distance training for several months. It would be like asking an elite miler to run sub-11 for 100m. I'm certain that many of them have the talent to do it if they devoted a block of training solely to weights and sprint work but few if any could do it while running close to 100 mpw.
One player who might have a chance at becoming a middle distance stud if he were to ever focus on it is Brandon Banks, who briefly had a stint in the NFL before coming to the CFL as a wide receiver/returner. He's listed as 5"7 and 153 lbs but his trainer says that he weighs 140.
He ran 10.4 and 21.4 seconds for the 100m and 200m in high school and is nearly untouchable as a kick returner. In the East Division final last year, he returned 2 punts for touchdowns (plus another that was called back) and returned another for a touchdown in the final minute of the championship game, that likely would have won his team the title had it not also been called back on an illegal block.
He's likely good enough to be a strong returner in the NFL but probably won't be given a chance as he's too small to also play receiver and the NFL usually reserves special teams-only positions for players fresh out of college so that they can be payed less.
Another guy in the CFL who I've heard has run 1:5X for 800m is receiver Rob Bagg.
Again not to beat a dead horse but RG3 qualified for the olympic trials in the 400mH (which is a STRENGTH) event and went sub 50 multiple times. Gotta think that is worth at LEAST a 1:53 and even someone with very poor endurance can run a 4:30 mile from that.
Thought I remember reading the 800M is like 90% anaerobic 10% aerobic and mile is 80% anaerobic 20% aerobic. The HUGE drop off is from mile to 2-mile or 5k.

No way. Have you guys ever seen the sprinters on your team run the 800? Do you ever see the sprinters run cross country? It's hilarious! 9 out of 10 sprinters would struggle to run 2:15 much less 4:30.
For the 1 out of 10 who would pop a good 800, that's probably their limit. Extending it another 2 laps is really out of range.
For the freak out their who is a fast sprinter and can somehow still run a fast mile (this is now a 1 in 100 talent), if they're in the NFL they are too musclebound to actually do it. It's not happening.

I suspect Brian Moorman could with a few months of training. He is slim for a football player and was a collegiate endurance sprinter. Slimness doesn't guarantee stamina though and many of the slimmer conerbacks probably lack stamina

Of course there are a bunch that could. Your bloated egos can't comprehend that the best talent goes to the sports with the best money, I'm sure there is someone in the NFL who could compete at a world class level at every event from 100-1500m, (I don't mean one person)
I knew plenty of guys in HS who trained for track and ran sub-2 in the 800 that couldn't break 4:30.
Sub 4:30? No way! Just because someone can run a fast 400 m doesn't mean they can run a 4:30 mile. I ran college track with plenty of reasonably fast 400 m runners (not 45/46 but 47/48 types) and they weren't touching 4:30 for 1200 m (let along 1600 m). And one of my best college friends was a WR on the football team (who ran the 400 m in HS) and he wasn't going to run a sub 6:00 mile either.
No one runs a sub 4:30 mile without significant endurance training, and I don't think NFL players are doing significant endurance training.

The only way that it happens is if a kicker/punter took up distance running as a hobby, similar to how Steve Weatherford devotes himself to bodybuilding, even though it is not needed for his position. Make no mistake, 4:30 requires significant aerobic fitness, which is antithetical to the explosiveness needed for pretty much any position in football.

I'm with you on this. Reminds me of the threads about "could Usain Bolt run a 5:00 mile" (or whatever time was being discussed at the time). Of course he couldn't.

Yep...ZERO percent chance any active NFL player can run a 4:30 mile without distance-specific training. Zero.

This analogy might help: 4:30 is not really that good. It's a varsity level time in high school. Do you think that conversely no elite 1500 meter runners would be able to play high school football at a varsity level?
You guys overestimate the specialization required to do this for ELITE athletes, they don't require it to achieve a basic degree of proficiency in something that is already a component of their livelihoods.
We had a sprinter on our team do xc. He ran about 52 or so in the 400. His best 5k time after a few months of training was 19:16. I could see a better 400 time translating to a slightly better 5k time, but not much. Given that one stat, I could see some more athletic wide receivers or running backs breaking 5 flat in the mile, but definitely not 4:30.

Emma Coburn is quoted as saying she can take down Usain in the mile. Her mile PR is 4:33
Few national class distance runners could break 4:30 for the mile with no training.
