Jon Drummond gets 8 year ban!

Drummond was the AAC (Athletes Advisory Committee) chair but he resigned during the meeting in Anaheim. He was replaced by Dwight Phillips - the one who said the athletes were behind Stephanie. Drummond was one of Hightower's biggest cronies. So far it looks like Phillips is following in his foot steps, cronywise at least.

Anyone have any insight onto Drummond's speech?

Drummond should have immediately been suspended from his position the time he was charged by USADA. Like how the NFL will suspend you with pay immediately if you are charged with domestic abuse.

If his name was cleared he could have his job back.

It was in the final AAC session, right before their elections. He recited poetry, said that he had been looking to see if certain things would happen in Anaheim, they did, and now he was ready to resign and have time to spend with his family or whatever. Recommended Dwight to replace him and then walked out.

He was a GOOD chair of AAC. Far better than his predecessor. I've seen a lot of progress for athletes in the past 6 years and AAC moving in a good direction.

He could have been a GOOD President of USATF someday. This is all very unfortunate. I am curious to see if he will keep fighting this in the courts or accept the ban.

As far as someone being suspended pending charges, I'm not sure if we have anything in the bylaws that covers that situation, I think everyone has been waiting to see what USADA would say. Maybe we should have something in the bylaws to cover it. JD probably was pressured behind the scenes to resign at Anaheim, since there would be an AAC election occurring either way.

(remember dennis mitchell was made a usa coach for world relays even after being a convicted drug cheat)

They broke a GDR record. I would say even with more talent than the GDR team they still couldn't beat that team because of the boost PED's give female athletes. So you can conclude what you want off of this...

Didn't Drummond label himself "the clown prince of track & field" during his competitive days? How could anyone take him seriously as a coach.......and particularly as an administrator?

The athlete in this situation only gets a 1 year ban, but OOOHHHHH, when the coach does something, let's give him an 8 year ban? Tyson knew what he was doing, I'd much rather see him get an 8 year ban too...

No wonder every mob character on the Sopranos ratted out superiors.....

The NFL doesn't do that. Individual teams may suspend players as soon as there is an allegation but it's not a uniform policy. For example the 49ers let Ray McDonald play this entire season even though he was arrested for domestic assault. They finally released him today after he's a suspect in a rape - coincidentally after they've been eliminated from making the playoffs.

Three thoughts:

1) JD a GOOD chair? Really pole-vault?

2) JD's quote on the track after making the Olympic team at the Trials in Atlanta... "I'm Barcelona Bound, Baby!" For those of you too young, the Olympic Trials in Atlanta were for the Olympics in Atlanta. Can you say dumb as a rock?

3) Teddy Mitchell. USATF has given too much aid and comfort to dopers. Really, Fred Finke?

How many AAC Meetings did you attend with JD as chair? Yes, I thought he did a good job, he fought really hard within USATF for athletes rights.

The thinking is banning the coach will stop more athletes being influenced to dope.

The reality is they will just get the gear from somethere else very easily

Great that Gay is a rat as well as a cheat, still he's a nice guy!

At this point, it's almost impossible not to think about Maurice Greene and Ato Boldon as dopers.

Reading this was unbelievable on so many levels

1. So much for sophisticated drug use. This just sounds like a pair of clowns trying to figure out a way to come out on top.

2. Whoever said Tyson Gay is either guilty or has an IQ of 70 is spot on. If the latter then he deserves a longer ban for pure stupidity. The tubes had a big T for testosterone and a big H for HGH and he thought they would be OK?

3. Jon Drummond deserves every minute of his 8 year ban. Everything suggests he set this up and it's hard to believe he didn't know exactly what he was doing.

4. Any repurcussions for the doctor? Can he lose his license for this?
