Honestly, there's a primitive feeling of running as it is; it's sort of what we've evolved to do (inb4 Born To Run bozos) and running without a shirt is one more part of the equation. It can't be just North Americans that run in split shorts for the same reason, and women run in the short spandex most likely for the same reason.

There's also all of the other practical reasons, like the hot weather, or in wet weather, the shirt ends up weighing you down and making you wet and miserable.

I remember seeing Morganna jogging with her shirt off. It was life changing for me!

I used to race without a shirt on days that I normally would run shirtless but if you have any type of sponsorship that kind of goes out the window. Also, any track races you have to wear a singlet I believe.

They are in New York state. Even in other places I see women running in just a bra. If you're a woman that's not completely flat that's the same as running topless.

Unfortunately, some men do have appendages on their chests but they normally aren't the ones who are running or feel comfortable running shirtless
