At the end of the swim leg Allen was in 44th place in the field of 51. After the bicycle leg she was in 28th. During the run she progressively overtook twenty seven competitors to power past then-leader Australian Loretta Harrop just 150 metres from the finish.

I was still sleeping when the marathon relay started. I overslept and got up one minute after the start. I hurriedly drove to the race and went to find my bib number. I was told my teammate picked it up before the race. Met my teammate at the 10 mile point which was a handoff zone for the relay teams using 3 runners. My teammate and I were running as a 2 person team. I ran along with him as he handed me my bib number and race t-shirt. Ran back to the half marathon hand off zone and waited for him to arrive. He handed me the timing bracelet in 4th place and I took off. I soon moved into 3rd and eventually overtook 2nd place. With less than a mile to go, I could see the lead relay runner. I flew past him moving into 1st. Rounded the last turn seeing my teammate sitting on the curb waiting for me. I stuck my finger high in the air exulting in our 1st place come from behind win.

Can't come from much farther behind than being asleep at the start and winning at the end.

Yeh, Ngugi definitely gets the moral victory. However from an Aussie's perspective, the local King of Fun Runs beating the Olympic champ was really something.

THE best come from behind. Hands-down, is also the LARGEST collapse in MLB playoff history. Red Sox, come from being down 3 games to 0, and even two outs in the third game, to come all the way back, and defeat the steroid filled Yankees.2004 !!!!!

All the time when it is the athlete running in their home country and the entire nation has been waiting about 40 years for their athletic revival.

Not true. Wottle easily made it to the finals. In fact, his three rounds of 2nd, 1st and 1st were the best of any runner at Munich.
