Esther is already #8 based on her 2:33:15 from Boston.

How fast is Twin Cities? Compared to a course like Chicago, NYC, or Boston?

Twin Cities is probably comparable to NYC for hilliness, so not a fast course. Boston isn't fast either unless there's a tailwind in which case it can be very very fast. Chicago is flat and fast unless the wind blows.

In order of toughness:

1) Twin Cities -- hilly

2) Chicago -- flat

3) New York -- hilly, point to point

4) Boston -- downhill, point to point

Not fast, but not slow. I'd say compared to a totally flat but turny Chicago course, 90 seconds to 2 minutes slower.

He's apparently never run up the Newton Hills either.

You can't look at Pennel's 2:13 and shake your head at it. The initial pace was slow and if this was a time trial race on a flat and fast course, I feel like he could have popped a 2:11, with a conservative guess. If you put him in a time machine and place him in last year's race he would still win.

Sergio looked a little bit off his game but him and Burrell should have kept an honest pace. They have huge gas tank sand they shouldn't have let nine guys still be in the race 15 miles in.

This race was a great opportunity for the B-listers to get some experience racing at the front. I also think Pennel has an outside shot at taking a spot on the marathon team.

Great race to watch.

Wondering where the U.S. Marathon championship would rank in comparison with other countries marathon championships?

Maybe take the top 5 times from each. I know the Eastern Africa countries would destroy us, but then what?

That caverunner has no idea how to train or race. Who the hell has a variance from 5:26 to 7:22 in a marathon? Damn... get some mileage in, buddy!! You're weak!

I wasn't racing the 2nd half. My plan the entire time was to run the first 1/2 at near marathon pace, then cruise the 2nd half and use it as a training workout.
