I think one could field a pretty good football team consisting of white players only.

The two most expensive players in the Real Madrid team are Renaldo and Bale, £80million and £77 million respectively, neither of them black.

Has anyone delved into the Russian women vs men phenomenom?
Why would a country have good athletes of one gender, but not another? In t/f, you see plenty of good athletes of both genders from U.S., Grt. Britain, Jamaica, Ethiopia and Kenya (despite likely gender obstacles). What gives with Russia?

Correction, GB never brought in Black athletes to win medals, their Black athletes are citizens either by birth, parentage or chose to become citizens for purposes other than running. Why would any country want an athlete representing them who does not embrace the culture and the values of that country? National pride is about feeling that an athlete is one of us.

I'm not so sure of this. At face value, it seems like it should be true, but I remember seeing an interview with Carl Lewis that makes me think otherwise. Lewis said that if it were so easy to go from sprinting to jumping then you'd see a bunch of athletes doing it. Jumping to sprinting is the opposite direction, but it makes me wonder.
As far as Russia getting black athletes goes, one thing I always loved about Russia at international competitions is that you were ALMOST always guaranteed to have Russians competing for Russia (Viktor Han being a rarity). No Abeba Aregawis, no Mo Farahs, no Tesfaye Homiyus, no Sifan Hasans, and even though I have crazy respect for him no Bernard Lagats. In other words, Russian athletes are actually a representation of not only Russian-born individuals, but more deeply, of Russian blood. Russia is currently like a bastion of hope to see a country truly represent itself. I wish more countries would do the same. If Russia gets black athletes, then all that is gone, and they're just like everybody else. To closely paraphrase Tim Hutchings, with like 7 out of 9 athletes in a race born in Africa, it ceases to be a world championships for my money.
Russia needs to be patient. America is slowly eroding the gap between east-Africans and non-east-Africans in middle-distance- and distance-running (except perhaps the marathon). There's no reason why Russia can't do the same.
Russian men have more professional sports options. Also drugs don't work as well on men. Soccer drains a huge pool of potential track stars in Europe. While I don't see many sprinters in soccer, I do see a lot of middle distance talent.
