If this site is correct. Rudisha, Kipketer, and Coe all have the 10 fastest 800s of all time. His 1981 record stood for over 16 years.
Wonder if anyone will ever simultaneously hold the 800m, 1000m, 1500m, and mile WR ever again.

Coe was one of the greatest, but come on. 25-26 sec 200m was his 800m race pace. Impossible he ran 20x200 with 35-40s jog. Maybe 5-6 reps. And he either benched over 300lb or that was the weakest high school football team in recorded history.

These workouts were well documented and even corroborated by Joe Newton in an interview.
This wasn't even anywhere near his most impressive workout.
He was playing catch up in 1984. In past years he did sessions like 30 x 200 in 27 seconds with 45 seconds rest, and 6-8 x 300 in 37-38 with 45 seconds rest when peaking.
27 is a long way from 25-26.
At the time that Coe actually did the workout it was reported as being a couple of seconds slower per 200 but the last one was closer to 23 seconds.
He certainly wasn't running 30 200s in exactly 27 seconds.
Try to be realistic.

It seemed like he was always doing it on a Sunday, church bells were ringing and it was hotter than hell. He wanted to do it when it was hot because L.A. was going to be hot. The first time he averaged 41.5 and did the last one in 39.5. The second time he averaged about 39.5 and finished with a 37.6. The last time he averaged 37.5 and ran the last one in 35.9. I remember that day he got done and said, ‘I’m fit.’

The schedule in Better training for Distance Runners shows nothing like that sort of training.
As I said his 20x200 workout was documented AT THE TIME as being impressive but still reasonable.
His workouts don't have to be better than necessary which you seem to think is the case.
That's the sort of thing an athlete might do to intimidate the competition during his racing career, not 30 years later.
