So their running culture is in an ebb. Kind of like what happened to us after Rodgers/Shorter and Benoit/Jones/Brown. Really worse for us considering the population differences.

Yeah, she should lose 20 lbs in order to run faster. The whole crossfit argument is fun, but once you're not competing at a high level anymore, crossfit style training makes a lot of sense. Not the cult bullshit. But stay in great shape with some low intensity cardio, some sprint work, some heavy lifting. You'll be in great shape to run a race even though it wont be fast. You'll also look fantastic to the opposite sex, whether you're trying to attract a mate or make your current mate proud. It makes sense to me...if I'm not competing at a high level why would I want to look like a skeleton and spend 15 hours a week running?

Facts please. Finland is not the same as Norwegian. The Finns have been caught over and over for PEDs. Norwegians, much more scarce. Though, Ole Einar Bjorndalen gives reason to suspect use.

Stoermer Steira does not need to lose weight. The Norwegian National team pulled her from races because they thought she weighed too LITTLE. They let her race again after she came above a healthy weight and body fat percentage.

Crossfit and Nordic base training share minor lifting aspects, but nothing else. Read Noah Hoffman's blog to get an idea how many hours of low heart rate exercise they perform in the off season.

Anyway, she has been a good runner all along. Maybe the best pure runner of the Norwegain XC girls.

Yes, this is true, it was dropped to media after she kinda protested through them that her BMI periodically was as low as in the 17:s - that's lower than Asbel Kiprop.

She's listed at 5'7", 117 lbs. That a typical weight for an elite female runner.

You guys are all kind of missing the point. Norway's national sport is cross country skiing. Has been used as a form of transportation in scandanavia for hundreds of years. Many children learn to xc ski at an extremely young age. It's not that their running culture is in an ebb, their best endurance athletes are almost exclusively skiers. Think about it. The country sits at an extremely high latitude in relation to most other nations. Makes sense that their best sports would have something to do with snow.

And whoever said she needs to lose 20 pounds....You should probably gain 20 lbs and you might be able to finally get a girlfriend.

Wrong. CrossFit morons only do well in set up CrossFit events. They do perform terribly in all endeavors outside their ridiculous side-shows. This has been been the case time and time again.

All the other good women 10k runners probably had a fall marathon they needed to train for.

Running is important, I think, but lots of aerobic/anaerobic training at L3/L4 with various activities -- roller skiing, cycling (mountain & road), hill bounding w/ poles, etc. -- in addition to running. For elites, throw in a two-week camp to a glacier somewhere during summer to get on skis and build base and work on technique. Lots of core work, too, with functional strength training probably at least twice a week. During base period, someone like stoermer steira is probably working out between 25 or 30 hours a week.
