He deserved the DQ for poor sportsmanship but that was one of the best pre-finish celebrations I've seen.

Pretty impressive to have enough of a lead to take your shirt off, put it in your month, jump over a barrier and then wave your shirt and hands to the crowd before finishing.

It's like the Gobble Gobble MFers finish.

I've seen the argument raised a few times now, that he won it so comfortably that the DQ was unnecessary. That is COMPLETELY irrelevant. If someone down the field had done the same thing, they'd have been disqualified too.

I find it hard to believe some people are calling the DQ harsh, it was one of the most tasteless, moronic and selfish things I've seen on a track in over 30 years of watching

Wow, that is so lame. Oddly enough, I just had a talk LAST NIGHT about things such as this with my freshman in HS son. He jokingly asked if he should ever pull out the front of his jersey which has his high school's name on it as he crosses the finish line if he wins a race. I told him ,"NO".

He was in tears after qualifying from his 1500m semi-final today.

Ridiculous that he got DQ'd. The Spanish are a bunch of sore losers. Everyone that finished below him that got upgraded a spot should feel ashamed. Races are decided on the track, not in a meeting room.

The guy who has to stand on the podium tonight and collect bronze has to feeling a bit embarrassed about it.

I feel indifferent. But rules are rules and he had to be disqualified. If you want to be a poor sport there's plenty of rare celebrations you could without getting DQ. Examples include (after final hurdle):

1. Shuffle to the finish on all fours (actually this might be DQ since bib not visible maybe)

2. Stagger to the finish backwards (actually probably DQ)

3. Hop to the finish on one leg (should be allowed)

Clearly 3 is the only option. From now on if athletes are leading by a big margin they should hop on one leg to the finish line.

He is on a short leash already. Name another athlete in any other sport who is so consistently hostile to competitors, officials and fans?

He is an asshole, and we don't need him. The sport will be fine (in fact much more pleasant) without him.

A failed drug test will make this whole DQ issue moot anyway.

If you didn't get DQed for that I would have taken my singlet off immediately after starting every race in college above 50 degrees.

He made it to the front page of CNN international. Perhaps the sport needs more like him.
