Run early, don't race unless she wants to do so. Too compulsive. But get in a run. I love running on Xmas.

Hey y'all! I'm getting married at the end of the month and, as luck would have it, there's a 10k xc race being held nearby on the morning of the wedding. The race is 30 mins from the ceremony/reception venue and starts at 9am. The ceremony is at 5:30pm. I'm a little hesitant to run the race for fear I'll be pretty spent later that night after drinks and partying.
My question for the married folks of LRC: did you run a race the day of your wedding? If so, how'd it go? How did you hold up later that day and evening (if applicable). Thanks for any contributions, I appreciate it.
Just wanted to follow-up on this thread, as I feel as if that doesn't happen too often around here.
I ended up running the race with one of my groomsman, and we had a blast! The course went through pastures (complete with grazing cows), woods, and cornfields and was horribly marked. I went off course 2 or 3 times, but, because it was a pretty small race in the middle of nowhere, ended up winning. Better still, 1st prize was a WHOLE WHEEL OF CHEESE!
We made it back to the house by 11am, where my brother and the other groomsmen had a cooler of DFH 90 Minute and a roaring fire waiting. The race turned out to be a great distraction for the pre-nuptial jitters, and made for a great story (and delicious, hilarious snack at 2am).
Just wanted to thank the positive contributions, both for and against running the race. It turned out to be a great idea and I had more than enough energy for a long, fun wedding day. Thanks y'all!
I don't mean to resurrect this thread, but I got beat in a 5k by NAZ Elite coach (was in St Louis at the time) Ben Rosario (and one of his groomsmen) on HIS wedding day. He and his wife, Jen, both ran if I remember right. He and his groomsmen were all really cool and seemed pretty laid back. Let me cool down with them after. I'm glad it was a good experience, OP.

Several decades ago I ran 5 miles thru the neighborhood where my in laws lived. It was Christmas morning and still dark. I kept yelling 'Merry Christmas' as I ran. Don't know if anyone heard me but imagined some kid waking up and saying they heard Santa.
Yes I ran a flat 3 mile race the morning I got married. I tried to drive my car to the race as oil leaked out and it froze up the motor on the way home. Had to get a ride back home. But the wedding went well and the marriage has lasted over 40 years so guess it is all good.
Steve Scott ran a 10k XC race the day he got married in Orange, CA. 1979.
When my wife and I got married we hosted a group run the morning of.
At my wedding we invited around 150 people. The morning of the wedding we put on a 5k with a banner (which is hanging in my garage), water bottles, race bibs, t-shirts and an awards ceremony with untraditional trophies. My wife isn't a runner but is supportive of my addiction. I believe that we had 80 finishers for the race and I "won" as my faster buddies slowed down at the end/pushed me across the finish line. You have to race!
I won a road mile on the morning of my wedding. My wife was on board with the whole idea, and the $750 prize money came in handy on the honeymoon. I'd say go for it.

Remind me how that worked out?
Like 50% of the other marriages in this country. Not well.

Lol. Good one.
The language is a bit harsh but really, a run for some might be good, but a race on marriage day just reflects messed up priorities.
Unless your wife races it too and then it just means that you both don't want to focus that much on a wedding that maybe you spent little on. That's OK. You're both together on it.
