Head East my friend! Go Teller Farm (or maybe it is Ranch)...anyway it's Boulder Open Space and you can run on soft flat ground there for a long way!

Cu track is worth trying to get on. It is deffinately a distance runners track. lots of cushion. However I asume they don't race on it b/c i didn't see any stands. I thought usually NCAA rules make it so the track has to be open to the public a certain amount of time, but im probably wrong.
I would stay away from Teller Farm. It is a car break-in magnet. The trailhead sits away from the road... go out for a long run, and your personal items may be removed from you locked car when you return!
Boulder is a Ghetto!

Hope this helps some!! .....Looks like they've been re-surfacing several of the Boulder tracks this past summer, they should be ready when you guys go out there in April
Running in Circles. Track closures in Boulder
By Todd Straka
In the peak of the training season for most of us, rennovations on the local tracks have left some of us looking for more creative avenues.
It's summer time again and its time to get some speed back into your legs after that winter of long slow running. So you head to the track for your favorite speed workout. But wait... it seems that everyone in Boulder decided to redu their track this year. Yes that right. Boulder High and Fairview High schools, are resurfacing their tracks this summer. Slated to re-open in the fall in time for school, but after the buld of summer road racing.
CU has finally finished its resurfacing of Potts Field. Some say its one of the best track surfaces around. The track was made by the Italian company Mondo and is the same surface used at the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton, Canada. But don't get too excited yet. There is limited availability to the public: Tuesdays with extended hours 6:30 to 10:30 a.m., and from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
So what are we to do?
Well... There is one local gem: Centenial Middle School has remained open. But bring your cushioned shoes, as this track is made of old school asphalt. You can find a number of runners on any given night. Some of the local running groups have taken to traveling outside of town to Louisville or even Longmont to get in their speed workouts.
Another option is to not worry about finding a track and do some fartlek training. Go out for 1-2 mins at your 5k pace and do a few repeats of this. The Boulder Creek Path provides a safe haven for this as its reasonably flat and there are now 1/2 mile markers painted on the path. Run circles around your local park for some true cross country efforts.
maybe this will help also
Some misinformation in this thread:
1) Fairview's track was resurfaced a few years ago and is red and quite forgiving on the legs.
2) Boulder High's track is black with long straighaways and tight turns. At times, access is not easy as the gates are locked.
3) CU's track is not soft in comparison to Fairview's and Boulder's track.
4) I've run at Teller Farm hundreds of times and have never had my car broken into. There were a few break-ins at different trailheads two or three years ago. Don't leave your wallet on the car seat!
Do check out
as they have comprehensive information and photos of the trails around Boulder. Enjoy your time here.
Same here ... I've run at TF too many times to count, and have never had a problem. Just like most places, don't leave cash on the dash and or the expensive sunglasses in the seat and you won't have a problem. There are some decent tracks in the surrounding areas ... Silvercreek in Longmont ... just a few miles north of the Boulder Res, Monarch in Lousiville/Superior, Broomfield HS in Broomfield, and Legacy HS in Broomfield.FYI I don't know if it is just me, but I swear that the Centenniel Middle School is tilted.

Sorry, it is the Boulder High School track that is black with long straights. That one you shouldn't have any problem getting on to as far as I know.
And could you please tell me 'BMC Member' how my post was 'stupid' and not just a case of confusion over a name. I was just trying to be helpful. Could you please put your name to a post if you are going to be an arse.

You probably won't be interested in this suggestion, but what the heck: to truly get the job done (with minimal distraction), go to Alamosa.
