kim collins personal best 9,96 at age 38

Kim Collins did test positive in 2002 for Salbutamol, a steroid found in his asthma medication that he didn't report - he was subsequently given a warning. I wonder if he's still taking it.Did not know that Salbutamol is otherwise known as albuterol or ventolin. Also did not know that "at the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 1984, 41 of more than 67 athletes with proven exercise induced asthma (EIA) won medals in a wide range of sports including swimming, track events, rowing, and basket ball."

A little note I have not seen mentioned in this thread but all the marks in this race had reaction times under .10 except Collins who was .03 above but the rest were about .05 faster than they normally would be at BEST so if you add .05 to all to accept there was some gun malfunction in the race then his time while still impressive is not the sub 10 WOW that has everyone so excited. These times will not be accepted on the world list because of the reaction time error as 3 of the 4 finishers should have by rule been DQ'd on a false start

What's so sad about observing a simple fact? My statement is true. How many other sprinters have ever done that? In fact, can you name any other elite athlete who has gone 11 years between PRs at their primary distance?

I brought that up more as a curiosity than to cast suspicion on Collins. Although, I must admit, having a breakthrough in your late thirties is rather suspicious. For a sprinter, having a breakthrough at age 28 would be suspicious. 38 is another story altogether.

this is perfectly possibly IMHO

I have stayed at the exact same level within 0.5sec over 400 since i ran in 2000 at now 33 years old, this year I rana PB indoors.

Its about a, sticking with the sport and not giving up,

What don't you understand here? Collins is an elite sprinter who set a personal best at an older age than probably any other elite sprinter ever - an age when the vast majority of elite sprinters have already retired. Now, you can believe in him if you want, and you can give explanations of why you think he is different to everybody before him, and that's fine, and you may even be right....but you can't deny that at the very least, what he has done is unusual. And in the landscape of modern sports, seeing what Collins has done and refusing to even consider the possibility of PEDs is just willful blindness.

Drugs is a possibility. But we are not talking about a breakthrough at 38. He is now at the same level he was in his mid to late 20s. This is less suspicious than a generation ago due to the fact that people in general

age at slower rate.

A 38 year-old athlete performing at the same level as they did in their mid-20s (or in this case, slightly faster) is highly unusual. Look at all the suspicion Bernard Lagat generates, and he was not as fast at 38 as he was in his prime. In his best event as far as his whole career goes, the 1500 (the more speed-oriented event), he was significantly slower.

Look at the suspicion generated by Regina Jacobs when she set an indoor WR at age 39. (This suspicion proved to be well-founded.)

Look at Eddy Hellebuyck when he turned 40.

Or, by contrast, look at Gebrselassie. He continued to run some good races at age 38, and everybody talked about what an ageless wonder he was. But those races were not close to career bests. Can you imagine him running under 26:22 for 10k at age 38? Would people find that believable?

What if Paula Radcliffe broke her marathon WR as a 38 year-old? Would that not be suspicious?

People don't age slower than they did a generation ago. Some people take better care of themselves perhaps. But most of the time when an athlete is still performing well in their late 30s, if you take a sport like baseball, it's a superstar who had so much skill to begin with that they are still good even in a diminished state. They are not actually as good, or better, than they were a decade earlier. They don't get faster as they age.

I don't say Kim Collins should be considered guilty of using PEDs merely because of his late-career surge (or ability to maintain, if you don't want to concede that he's faster). I just say, look, this is unprecedented and extremely surprising (and we know what that often means in modern sports). Don't act like it's something that happens all the time nowadays, when in fact it has happened a grand total of one time.

the life expectancy in most developed countries has increased

by decade or more. This is not only due to advance in medicine, but due to for example fewer infections (as a child).

Incremental improvements are meaningless, and all the more so when factored with age. Lets say Collins continued to improve by exactly 1 100th for the next ten years, running 9.87 at age 48. Still not a suspicious trajectory? American public education system much or what? Cuz I've had post mexican food farts with greater awareness of data subsets.This makes me sad, because I did think it very likely Collins was clean through most of his career. He just started lifting weights he famously did not lift until recently. Also, a sprinters training takes a lot less of beating as a distance runner. In addition sprinters have more days of complete rest built into their training. He is lightly built and yes it is possible now with more knowledge about how to train sprinters you can run faster longer. Think about the positive effect Daniels runner formula has had on our high school distance runners? The same is some what true now for a larger number of sprinters because of Latif Thomas stuff, speedendurance.com, and elitetrack.com. point being you will see more people like Kim as we move forward

"He just started lifting weights" sounds reminiscent of FloJo. Next, you might say that he has really started paying attention to his diet. You realize this is a guy who ran in the Olympics in 1996, right? That's 18 years ago. And he just now found out that sprinters benefit from lifting weights?

But even if true, it still doesn't explain why no other sprinters are doing what Kim Collins is doing age-wise, or anything close.

By the way, I noticed that Collins also set a lifetime best for the 60m earlier this year (6.49).

Collins is also not tested hardly at all. St Kitts and Nevis have no on island testing and he is only randomly tested at meets and whenever a random IAAF person enters island. He can get the advance warning a tester is on the island and be clean by time he is found.

Besides he and Gatlin are likely using the micro dosing of testosterone that is being done today where it is done daily after testing could occur and clears system by next day.

steroids + hgh = age record .....

I'm guessing Neville Hodge was either faster or pretty damn close (although it looks like he peaked in college, born in Dec. 1955). His times at the Worlds/Olympics in 1983 and 1984 were slower than his time run as a 37.5 year old.

He retired in Sep 2009 and came out of it in Jan 2011.

why did he never run 100m till so late in career .

so obvious as never doped to such level.
