IAAF gives steeple/flat equivalencies of 9:11/8:18 for men, 9:11/8:27 for women, so yeah, the barriers are slightly lower relatively, but not by a lot.

Not a great example... I know a guy whose PRs are 3:58 1500 and 9:07 steeple.

You just used one example, everyone is different... Some people are aerobic monsters and some people just have too much speed for their endurance

Not that impressive in the women's steeple. The barriers are a joke, even relative to height:

If 30-40s is the rule of thumb for converting a men's flat 3000 to steeple, 20-30s is the rule for women.

Coburn is smooth over the barriers. But let's be realistic about what those "barriers" are.

Did you know Kenyans race over barriers bigger than the standard size in Kenya. They don't have great technique but still the standard size seems easy to them

If true, that's actually a pretty smart training strategy.
