What a race by Emma Coburn to get the American record. I actually got goose bumps as she went over the last water jump. I like seeing the Americans race and go for it and the crowd was in it because Coburn and Ayalew were attacking side by side. Well deserved AR. Icing on the cake would have been if she won the race but a close second isn't too bad. The rest of the Americans could learn from Coburn. Women's 3000mSC - 12.07.2014 Final Pl. Athlete Nat. Oh, I get it you just hate nike and nike athletes, let's now get some more attacks going about how bad AlSal is, they are all dopers you know, that they don't race fair, they won't shake hands, they suck b/c they ran a great time but didn't win, they suck b/c even though they won their time wasn't that great, etc. etc.

These boards are becoming so predictable, it's fine to prefer different running styles (front runner v sit and kick), but must it always devolve into personal attacks and hate?

Funny, the names you list are olympic & world champs medalists, national and area record holders - yeah, they really suck.

Sorry to bash an icon, but Coburn runs smarter than Pre. His bizarrely "gutsy" pace changes cost him a medal in the 1972 Oly 5000m. Ian Stewart was well down at 400 and even more at 200 to go, but Pre's bursts resulted in him tying up at the end and the Brit passed him in the last 20m to capture bronze.

I don't see this rashness in Coburn, i see a more calculated, and honestly strong, pacing. Her splits are good from Shanghai to this race.

Props to her, looking forward to seeing more, hopefully she keeps it together thru Rio.

AR improved 18 seconds over 10 years. The women's 3K record would be equal to about a 9 flat steeple.

The women's AR steeple record is soft. Looking forward to a 8:59.

I just can't not enjoy watching races like the ones Coburn runs but I have a very tough time forcing myself to enjoy the jogfests that are very often on the men's side these days and you know what, even that is fine. If you go into the race planning to sit and kick more power to you. What really puts me off these days is announcing fast times, record attempts and having pacemakers asked to do certain times all the while no attempt is actually made at running fast.
It confuses the shit out of me how these people can live with themselves lying about what you're going to do and showing your real intentions within the first 200m of a race jogging through it in 40 seconds.
Simpson, Coburn, RUDISHA, these are the athletes you respect and can't wait to see race regardless of what their coaches do or how they act on/off the field. They go for it. It makes you want to get up and do another training session in hopes of becoming like them.

Unfortunately, it appears Coburn even had more race in her at the beginning than the pacemaker was allowing. Consequently, the pace maker was disruptive to her race. Terrible.

Some people run for highest placement without being in the mix to win at any point in the race.

Emma is amazing and I truly hope she wins another race this year or next. Now, everyone knows who she is.

The other thing I love about her is that unlike some elite athletes, she loves pushing the pace instead of just sitting back and kicking.

The women's steeplechase race has just become more interesting.
