Jr. Grant Fisher smokes field at adidas Dream Mile - Runs 4:02.02

Mr. Fisher, I congratulate you on your son. Of course he's a fantastic runner, but from what little of his personality that a fan can see, he seems like a good kid. Congratulations! I wish you and your family the best. I hope Grant continues to enjoy the sport of running--hopefully slightly more than soccer!

Grant loves sport and competing. Time has never been at the forefront of his competitive or training process. Steady improvement, staying healthy, having fun and doing the best he can to position himself to win races is his plan.

Fair enough. Agreed that track and field especially brings together athletes of all kinds of different ethnic backgrounds for the thrill of competition, so it amazes me how bigoted this board can be.

That being said, I suspect most of the people spouting ignorant platitudes are young (although I could be wrong on that, but just a hunch).

Agreed that staying healthy is the most important for a HS athlete. Tell Grant we say congrats, and I suspect he could have a great NCAA career as a runner if he pursued it.

Not to mention the terrible winter MI had this season he had to overcome! Grant ran a unreal time. I thought he would be low 4:00's as a Senior and maybe 4:05 - 4:06 this year. This was a HS only race as well!

Bumbalough's record was broken last year by Oakland High School's Brock Baker (now at Furman). Who would have thought Bumbi's record would be bested twice in consecutive years? I agree with you though, Pectol is the real deal. I got to watch him race a few times this year and was very impressed.

you could argue the sport has never been as popular or deeper at the HS level in large part to meets like the ones you mention. in the age of the internet & social media, rivals and up-and-comers see the results of these meets & the winners and think "i'm gonna take my best shot at that guy" or "i want that to be me in a couple years". very motivating.

Yes, sorry, I forgot to mention Brock's 4:06.77, which was slightly better than Bumbi's 4:05.34 1600m, but yes, Pectol developed very good this past year and I really would've liked to see him run the 3200m and maybe take a shot at Bumbi's 8:46.39 state record, kid has talent!

These guys are all big talents, but Fisher and Khosla made the biggest impact on me.

He certainly has a sub 4 in him as he ran wide a few times, and also eased up in traffic and he looked pretty fresh just seconds after the race!

Haik ran faster than Tamagno this year. The winner of the Festival of Miles absolutely deserves an entry.

Khosla is the classic Florida kid.... chokes any time he leaves the state of Florida and has to race big-time talent. He just craters. Hope he can figure it out in 2015.

Haik clearly did deserve an entry, as evidenced by the 4:05 and another good race. But when he was chosen for entry, Tamagno and several others had run significantly faster. I'm not saying that the qualifying meets should be taken away, I just wish that they were more uniform in quality.
