USATF may not fill fields at Track Nationals AGAIN!!!

Have any of you clowns that are ripping on USATF read the qualifying time and the field size and what they will do if a field is not full?

The more difficult A standard allows them the ability to fill the field with others.

The wording is different this year and they will fill the fields.

Rules mean little to the USATF. They will violate them and/or create new ones on the spot as they see fit.

This was my point. You will end up with a situation like last year's 5k. How can our sport live and breathe with only 9 people in final. That offers now incentive for a living. That's like saying a football player that doesn't make the super bowl not be allowed to play the next year. The sport can't exist and survive on a handle full of elites. If that's the case then just do away with USATF National Championships and give the spots to NOP, OTC, etc...

This is what the Nike contract with USATF is designed to do in the long run.

Look at Roller Derby created by Leo Seltzer (and refined by some guy named Damon Runyon's marketing ideas) in the late 1930's. Seltzer et al owned the league, the employees, the portable track and even the Mello-Roll and hot dog sales rights in the arenas during the matches.

This was more about ripping on USATF for last years 5k at nationals and the outrage at the slightest possibility that they may have another short field size

Cause last year, they said they were going to fill the field and they didn't... There were guys who payed a thousand or so dollars to fly out to Des Moines and when all the guys dropped out they never got run, and like I said earlier, the 10k allowed the B standards, but USATF said no to the B standards in the 5k

So no, I'm not going by what their website said, because they went back on what the said they were going to do last year

Just like the DQ indoors, do I think Hasay was pushed? Yes, but did they follow the rules correctly to DQ Grunewald? No, and when Hasay dropped, shouldn't that have not mattered since Grunewald was DQ'd? Yes, did that go against there rules so they wouldn't look bad? Yes...

By now we see, USATF wants people to follow their rules that they just pull out of the hat when they can't even follow their own

Anyone paying a thousand dollars to fly to Des Moines is not departing from the US. Thus, they didn't get to run because they weren't US citizens.

We're talking about San Francisco - a city in the United States. The San Fran that you're talking about sounds like it is in another country.

A quick lookup of ticket prices shows ~$150 to fly to LA compared to ~$600 to Colombia.

Nope. Still shouldn't cost more than ~$500-600 including all of that. Just admit that you were wrong.

If the USATF is really trying to me cost effective to then they should start by eliminating their costly junkets. Eliminate extravagent offive expenses like flourists. Eliminate Jill Geers husbands crappy band from the budget. Why does USATF have a 'house band' in the he first place?

USATF NEVER put in print that they would go to anything beyond an A list until this year.

I agree USATF is laughable, but what makes coaches or athletes think they should be let in if they don't qualify for the meet. Even if they're "really close to the time" and "training has been going so well" and "they're already there"?

USATF has made the mistake of allowing for those things sometimes and these coach and athletes now come to expect it. What USATF did last year was actually stick to what they stated on line.

As for this upcoming year, I don't understand why they won't simply state one of 2 policies,

1. The field size is the MINIMUM and we will go the descending list if it need to go beyond the qualifying time.

2. Field size is the MAXIMUM and if you hit the mark you're in, but if it gets to the field size that is stated (or beyond), there will Be no descending order lists.

Simple.

Excellent idea- rabbits who aren't really rabbits- they'd be making the pace fast and expect to finish- set pr'sand win money.
