He had to pay (doubtless a lot of money) for the footage on the understanding that he wouldn't download it onto a forum like Youtube for public viewing.

If he were to do so, just because a few rude people insist it is his duty to (it isn't) he would be going back on his word not to put it in the public domain. That could result is litigation at worst and the unlikelihood of any future footage being released to him at best. Either way he has compromised his promise.

This doesn't stop you or others from doing the leg work yourself, contacting the necessary TV company, paying the money and then downloading it yourself.

that acceleration is impressive, seems to put Makhloufi's backstretch at London to shame. He put about 5 seconds on those Germans in the last 300m and might not have been going all that hard in the last 50.

2) provide us the contact information to the organization with the complete meet footage so that we can arrange something legally

Drew, I would never want to embarass you or your Pa by asking you about what he thinks he could have run on synthetics, but I would be interested in the answer to 2 fairly innocuous questions :

1) Did he prefer running in slow, tactical races, some even solo, or would he have preferred fast, even paced races from gun to bell with him alone on last lap ?

2) Did he believe he was an all round faster runner for 400 to the mile in '66 or '67 ?

I'm asking because he set his 800WR & had his fastest relay leg when aged 19y & 18y at the time in '66 & didn't beat those in '67.

Ventolin-dad would never say it, but I do think he would have run under 3:50 on a synthetic track. How far under, who knows.

As for paced races versus kicking, I think is 3:51.3 WR indicates that given more paced efforts, he would have run faster. Part of that is also based on a conversation I had with Ken Popejoy years ago (fantastic guy, btw) where he said, "Your father would have run much faster over the mile if he had had someone to rabbit him. The problem was none of us could even get him to 3/4s. He was just that much better than us."

Dad has mentioned before he wonders what would have happened during his 3:51.1 if someone had been able to get him through 800m a few seconds faster. He told me once, "It was one of those nights. I felt terrible the night before in the prelims running 4:10 or something like that and then the gun went off for the final and I felt like I just kept unwinding and picking up speed. When I finished, I felt so good that given 10 minutes rest, I was confident I could have gone out and run another sub-4 mile."

But if given his choice, I think dad always enjoyed kicking. We've honestly never talked Dusseldorf, but I think that was him basically saying, "I feel good, watch this." I sent him the clip yesterday and his response was, "Wow, who was that guy?!"

I don't know about your second question but will ask him.

Ventolin-dad said definitely 1967. He said, "It was an unbelievable year."

He thinks in the right race he would have broken his 880yd record that year and he ran somewhere in the mid/high 13s for 5k that year pacing Tracy Smith to (I think) his 5k PR in a meet in Italy. Said it was a complete fluke, Tracy had asked him to pace him through 2 or 2.5 miles, he jumped into the race, paced Tracy and held on.

1) I don't know who he was racing and how good they were, but my god did he ever take off from the competition. That looked as ridiculous as Mo in that tempo race where he ran away from the college kids in 50.9.
