The length doesnt really matter does it? Iona yesterday was a slow day for VCP so should we be figuring out exactly what the Iona boys will run on a good day or on a flat course? No, we know they are good. We know mcdougal is good because he beat a good field. Comparing times is retarded. That being said i find it hard to believe that mcdougal would run much faster then 2425 at VCP...and if he is that fit this early, he may be in trouble.
lol...who are these guys that "certify" the length oF xc courses?
GET OVER IT GUYS, THE COURSE IS SHORT. SO WHAT?!
if it was true that championship courses needed to be a certified 8k or 10k Franklin Park would have a tough time hosting anything, it is a "certified" short course. World Xc has consistently wacky distances, but pretty they are usually pretty "close". The lehigh course is "about" 8k, but obviously somewhat short. Give me a break...

Obviously short? Sounds like someone is jealous of the fast times run there this weekend. The course is certified by the NCAA and probably USATF as well. NCAA regionals have been held there as well as NCAAs. It's just not a difficult course and conditions were pretty damn close to perfect. Franklin Park's "8k" is not certified to my knowledge. I don't see what all the hubbub is about. Yesterday was probably the fastest the race has ever gone. Rumor has it McDougal ran a course record. Three years ago Blincoe and Dan Wilson ran about 24:10. You don't think those guys were capable of those times? The truth is those people you think ran "too fast" for themselves yesterday are in better shape than you think.
One thing I've learned over the years is that XC times really don't mean bunk. It's all about who beats who at conference, regionals, and NCAAs.
well said
I don't think you understood what i said.
My first point was that courses do NOT have to be exactly 8k/10k to host a championship race. To hold a championship race, courses must be close to the appropriate distance and have ample running room, facilities and infrastructure for a championship to be run at said course.
Second of all, I didn't question the fitness or caliber of the runners that ran saturday or in the past on that course. As a third party observer it seems obvious to me that the course is incredibly fast. I guess it doesnt really matter whether its exactly 8k or not we can all agree that it was a very fast day compared to other courses around the country.
23:45 8k is the pace that it takes to run 29:27 for a full 10k. That is fast, but maybe not out of reach for some runners in the field. Please don't put words in my mouth.
When did XC become concerned with course length and time? I thought that it was about beating the other guy? I would love to see some courses where the winner can't crack 26:00.
Great American XC fest 2002!!! winner is just mid 26:00s
People, People.....it's cross country! You are only contributing to the bastardization of this sport by even questioning a courses length. If it is advertized as the national 10km champs and it's really 4 miles then there's a problem. Otherwise, don't even look at the clock.
