"The Boston Marathon Was Fixed" thread.

I am brazilian. i was so ashamed of my country during Athens Olympics when Vanderlei de Lima went away 'at a very pedestrian' 2h10 pace. C'mon, it was obvious. Paul Tergat was the world record holder. Olympics were fixed for us to win. If it wasn't for that priest...

Sure. 2h06-2h07 pace at that point is very pedestrian.

some people here judge marathon based on PR's performances. They think that guys who've run 2h03-2h05 should run that in every marathon.

they don't seem to understand about the sport. World is full of examples. Makau just set a WR and one year later was running 2h14. Kimetto and Desisa are very talented but they can't 2h04-2h05 in every race.

I am not even american but i am happy with Meb's victory. those who say it was fixed should be ashamed and study more about the sport.

Meb is naturalized American but as Muslim it shows how heroic muslims can be - not all are terrorists (just 99% or so)

Think for a freaking second. Where do you think all that "Boston Strong" charity money went to? Hmmmmm? That money went straight to those Kenyans as a bribe to throw the race.

Most likely the Reptilians paid off the Kenyans using all that money hoarded by the City of London. We all know that Queen Elizabeth II is the highest in their ranks. It makes sense that a former Crown Colony of Reptilian Empire wouldn't necessarily bow to their wishes, but would require some compensation. I don't think this is fooling those of us who know about their ways.

seriously though, what happened to Desisa and Kimetto? Two of the best in the world, both indicated that they were in good shape. Desisa won the RAK half (Feb 14th) in 59 minutes. yet, they're somehow dropped after a downhill 64 minute half marathon in perfect weather?

Simple. It's a marathon. Not everyday is your day. The fact that you've run a 59 half marathon is a great indicator, but this is not math. it doesn't mean you will wake up and run a 2h05, say a 2h08. It was not Desisa's day. As for Kimetto, he didn't seem to be in good shape. Has run a 64 HM in Netherlands where was unable to keep 61 pace and fade away.

Second, some patriotic businessman with deep pockets, or even the US government, could approach all the elite runners and offer them guaranteed cash equal to or greater than the top prize is they agreed to let Meb win. To add to the conspiracy, the financier made a deal with the BAA that if any of these guys tried to win the race, they would be banned from Boston forever. Or even worse, they finagled a deal with World Marathon Majors so these guys would never run another major marathon if they broke from the plan.

Considering that our sport is small potatoes, it would not take that much cash to pay off the important parties.

They give the plan: let Meb pull away with non-factor Boit at some point in race, do not chase, and let him build a big lead. For drama, if any of you have something left in the tank, give chase to Meb towards the end, make it close, but do not overtake him. Or else...

Obviously someone paid them to be near the front in the first half and then drop off. Millions of dollars were spent paying off every contender in the field to insure that the Eritrean-American guy would win.

This is absurd.

1. Meb PR'd today by a considerable amount, something nobody would have been banking on at 38 years old.

2. hundreds of major races are slower than expeted and nobody bats an eyelash until an American wins.

3. Meb has a history of winning slowish marathons, as evidenced by his silver medal and New York victory.

Give the man credit. For the love of god, when the kenyans win they're doping, if Meb wins the race is either fixed or he's not an American.

It must be sad to live in such a cynical, joyless world.

As soon as something happens that people think "shouldn't", skepticism ensues. Accept that everything didn't pull together on a unique course for elite east africans. Americans run tough.

And fixing an aging Meb to run a lifetime PR, 10 years after his Olympic Silver was easy I'm sure.

Also, Meb ran a good race and deserves all the credit. He looked tough out there.

Just put yourself in the elite's shoes: "Oh, some geezer with a 2:09 PR just threw in a surge halfway through the race? And the only guy that went with him has a 2:13 PR? Why should I be worried? They will come back when this race gets cracking at a decent pace."

Except the old guy kept a strong pace all the way to the end. The real question we should be asking is what is Meb on. Men of his age should not win a major marathon.

Or maybe they should have done some more non-paced races before taking Meb, the ageless wonder of non-paced marathons.

His win at the 2009 NYC marathon was probably fixed too. Do you think it's just a coincidence that he won on the 8 year, 51 day anniversary of September 11? Basically the guy's whole career has been one big sham.
