Don't know but he also went out fast (10-15th) and faded hard. At regionals Colorado didn't run well so he placed higher there.

If he was still running for BYU why would he have any commitments to run the Chicago Marathon? Wouldn't a commitment to run Chicago rule him ineligible to compete at NCAAs?

Because he didn't accept the prize money (and it was a race during the season), his eligibility wasn't affected.
By the way that article also states what I've been saying, only from the mouth of Eyestone. "He's a little behind the curve in terms of speed development and taper..."
He still had indoor eligibility this year (maybe outdoor too?), so that explains why he didn't take prize money even though he thought he wasn't eligible for XC.
When I started this thread I thought he didn't know he was ineligible until October/November, because that's when the stories and #freejared thing came out. Now it makes more sense that he knew all season long.
