Gimme a break! US 800 and 1500 athletes should be ashamed of themselves!!!!!!!!!!! All american records should be faster than Canadian records.

ANyone else annoyed that these sub elites who couldn't make a national team to save their lives go after some put record…only because it's never run.

new flash, no one cares about the 1K indoor record. I couldn't tell you who has it and or do I care.

No.

That's not the way to do it, you have to run it like an 800 and try to hold on. Every attempt I've seen the guys went out too slow, running 1:50 hurts about as much 1:48.

I agree!!! And nobody is annoyed with sub elites going after rarely run records. The best thing about getting a record in the 1000m or an off even is the fact that it has the potential to last longer than an even that is traditionally run. Also Brannen, and Torrence are hardly considered sub elites!!!!

P.S. - a 3'33 1500 guy is not sub elite

Torrence has the credentials here. He's run 1:45 low, 3:33.23 just last year, and 2:17 outdoors. (13:16 as well!).

Indoors, he's not run any very strong times except for the 2k against Lagat in sub 4:57 this year.

You get your records when you are physically able to do it. They double as your pr's as well. It is very chancy to hope that you'll get these in highly competitive big fields, which tend to be slow and tactical and where there's a lot of traffic to stop you. Rupp should have resisted the pressure and gone for that 1M indoor record when he was ready. Those opportunities are just not always there.

Torrence 2:16.86 AR

Brannen: 2:16.87

Peters: CR 2:18.55

leader splits:

27.2

53.8 (rabbit drops at 500m)

1:21.1 (DT)

1:48.9 (DT)

2:16.76 (DT)

remarkably even race. assuming that DT was about 0.25 seconds behind the rabbit (just a guess, haven't seen video), he split 27.4, 26.6, 27.1, 27.8, 27.86.

In case anyone doesn't remember when Krum ran his 217 AR he went on to run 331 nearly running down Lagat and 143 later that summer. Too bad Krum never did well in championship races though. I really liked him as a runner.

Krum won 3 US outdoor championships in the 800, and won a gold medal at the 2003 world indoor champs at 800.

It's not a stupid comment at all, and you seem to have completely missed his point. For a 1:44-45 guy, going out in 1:48 vs 1:50 isn't going to hurt THAT much more. And instead of trying the impossible task of 'kicking' the last 200 after an opening 1:50, why not go out a second faster and try to hold on?
