Do you even follow the sport? One of those guys might not have even broken 28:00 in the Moscow final. What 12:4x can't run that fast for 10k? That's how I know.

Bekele and Geb had MUCH more to deal with. Are you kidding? Wanjiru, the Tadesses, a Lagat that could close in 51 in a sub 13 race, Choge, Kipchoge, little Bekele, Farah, Sihine, El G, EACH OTHER, etc. These people weren't afraid to push the pace. They didn't just repeat the same dumb tactic literally every time.

Did you never hear of that 10k race where the Ethiopians ran the second half in under 13 minutes? Farah wouldn't know what hit him.

Mo is in the shape of his life. Yet he could not beat a washed up Bekele in the half marathon. There is no way he breaks a record that Bekele set when he was in the shape of his life.

We're talking about the 5k. Gebremeskal didn't run the 5k as his main event in 2013. Gebreweit and Alamirew ran 12:55 with 53 last laps in 2013. Koech and Longosiwa didn't time trial in 2013.

I said the 5k is the most competitive it's ever been. You said no it's not. One of the reason you stated was that they were racing idiots because they keep using the sit and kick tactic. So you did say that.

Wanjiru was not a 5k guy. Tadesse wasn't a sub-12:50 guy. Neither was Choge, 2000's Farah, T.Bekele, Lagat, or El G.

Geb's only real 5k competition was Komen. Tergat was mainly a 10k guy that never challenged Geb in the 5k. That's nothing compared to what Farah has to deal with.

No respect for Farah for not chasing records. Why on earth is he doing a marathon less than a year after running 3:28? He should have been with Galen chasing after the indoor 2 mile and mile records. Farah could have gotten those records and target a fast 5K this year but instead he's wasting his shape for $$$$ at the London Marathon.

Try again? YOU need to try again. This is about the 5k and the 10k. It's even in the thread TITLE. Wrong #1.

Yes, I did say that. But that's not what you claimed I said. Stop lying, you claimed that I said that 'sit and kick races equal not competitive'. That is not the same as what I ACTUALLY said which was about them using the same racing tactics over and over exposing their weaknesses. Wrong #2.

Geb had Komen and Tergat. Komen alone is more than anything that Farah has had to deal with. That is a fact. He was in shape and used a variety of tactics and used them well. Farah's competitors have fast PRs but all of those PRs are useless if you don't use appropriate tactics. Wrong #4.

My original comment was about the 5k only. I said it's more competitive than it's ever been. I never said anything about the 10k. You're the one using examples from the 10k to support your argument when I never brought that up.

They weren't. Out of the 9 guys you gave only 2 of them broke 12:50.

Tergat was not a 5k guy and never challenged Geb in the 5k. Komen is just one guy. I'm talking about depth of competition. Farah had to deal with 6 sub-12:50 guys in 2012, Geb had two. Also Komen almost only ran fast, time trial like races when he raced Geb. Not a variety.

The reason Farah wins races is because he's the best.

You asked me how I knew they weren't in form. I showed you an example of how one guy couldn't even finish a 10k in under or much under 28. That is a clear example of how i know they weren't in shape. So yes you did bring that up.

Again, those guys were all clearly in sub 12:50 shape. How do you not understand this? Lagat running a 51 in a 12:5x race doesn't clearly show sub 12:50 ability to you?

According to YOUR OWN logic, none of those guys were sub 12:50 guys in 2013 because they didn't actually run sub 12:50 in 2013.

No, Komen is far greater competition and depth by himself than any of those other guys. And no he did not always use the same tactic. Sometimes he kicked at the end. Sometimes he put a big surge in before.

Sure, I agree. The reason Farah wins is because he is currently the best. But not because he is actually a great runner. He wins because the others are either slower or lack any racing smarts. Why do they let it come down to a sit and kick EVERY race vs a guy with a 3:28 1500m time? Farah wins because the competition hands it over to him. He has never won using any other tactic.

That's not true. Farah beat them in fast races twice in 2011. Monaco 5k and Pre 10k. Actually the only races Farah has been beaten in are sit and kicks (besides the 1500,which isn't his main event).

The reason we're all having this debate is because although we know what Farah can do over 1500m, we still haven't seen him really go for a fast time over 10km. I still don't understand why he hasn't gone for a fast time on the track when he's clearly at the top of his game, he's not that young either.

I thought that this summer would have possibly been his last chance to chase his ultimate times for the track distances. Even if the world records are out of reach, wouldn't he want to see how much faster he could go over 5/10km? Especially having run a crazy time for 1500m!

I hope he doesn't make a mess of things having signed up for all the London marathon shenanigans. It would be good if he could return to the track after the marathon and chase times, otherwise I can only imagine him looking back regretfully at not taking the opportunity to throw everything at track before moving up to the marathon.

I'm sure that he could get the same amount of money for debuting at the London marathon this year as he would sometime in the next two to three years.

DISAGREE COMPLETELY. Bekele in 2003 in the 5000m had kipchoge, el g, abraham chebbi (who was a beast) and defending 2001 5000m world champion among others. Matter of fact even though he didn't complete the double. Bekele's 2003 double> Farah's 2013 double any day. And get this bekele was only 21 YEARS OLD AT THE TIME. Who else takes on that kind of challenge at 21 years old. What the hell Rupp was doing at the age 21? I'm pretty sure he wasn't doubling against competition like this. Where the hell was Mo at? Wasn't he same age as bekele? Besides Mo never had an El G to deal with in any of his 5000m races. I call that stiff competition.
