How is Galen Rupp entered, and accepted, into the 1500m at US Indoors?!

This is the USATF Indoor Champs Qualifying Procedures:

That is where one must run a time from Nov 13th 2013 - Feb 16th 2014, to qualify to run at USATF Indoor Champs.

The 1/1/13 date is for the Combined Events Championship. What is that?

Combined Events is heptathlon and pentathlon.

The way I read it is that one has to meet either the USATF Standard for the meet (

) per the table and guideline 3 which is 3:44.6 / 4:01.2 between 11/15/13 and 2/16/14 or per guideline 9 re USATF rule 8, the IAAF standard (

) which is 3:41 / 3:58 in the window 1/1/13 - 2/24/14 indoors or 3:34 outdoors.

Same with Rowbury in the womens 3k. NT - accepted - declared.

He's got the 'A' qualifier based off of his 3:34.78 split last year in his 3:50 mile

Right, based on this Rupp is fully qualified for the indoor 10k championship race.

He ran a 4'01 mile after a 13'01 5k and 4 other mile repeats

pretty sure he is good enough

I really don't know what the issue is, he probably appealed to get in, which you can do. If the USATF thinks you're good enough, they will get you in. This happened with Goucher and Webb in the past.

There are many better reasons to bash Nike and Rupp than this.

I thought the same about Rowbury, but she apparently ran a mile race in ABQ on 2/15/14.

Her time was under the USATF indoor qualifier of 4:46, so she actually has a legit qualifying mark for the 1500m

Does Rupp meets criteria c?

It states:

Is that 3:50 still valid? I don't know when the turnover happens on those and they become invalid.

Rupp also ran 3:52 in London in June, so if just given a one year rolling calendar then I'd assume he has the standard from that performance.

Rupp don't have to qualify for a time. He's Fi'n Rupp! That's like asking Mike Jordan to come off the bench.

(a) During the current or four previous calendar years, earned an individual medal in track and field in an Olympic Games or in an IAAF World Indoor or Outdoor Championship.

Last time I checked 2012 was 2 years ago.
