Short track is good that way as well, although too many people go down so staying on your skates doesn't necessarily mean you are the best.
Takes too long to watch a whole slew of people go down a skiing run (downhill), only to find out the guy who went first (or last) won anyway, in part because snow conditions changed from the first to last person.
Create a bobsled run with 4 teams at a time or at least 2, passing on curves, positioning, crashes. That would be exciting. Snowboard X has it right as these are races, the single runs are just for seeding purposes (much like in car racing).

Take an event like the skeleton. You watch one person at a time go down the chute. Every athlete looks exactly the same. Every run could have been a replay of the previous one, and you'd never know it. All you do is watch the little timer thing and see if maybe this athlete is a few quadrillionths of a second faster than the previous one. Give me drying paint any day.

For people who hate the Winter Olympics the Letsrun population certainly seems to watch a lot of it and be very up to date on the results and news of the Games.
a few years ago usatoday ran a poll asking which events should be dumped from the summer olys to make the games more cost effective. number one sport.... t&f
it was a loaded question to be sure.. the overall premise was that the games had become too expensive and that sports should be dropped but the answer was very telling for the state of our sport
