Neglecting wind resistance (which would make the jump take slightly longer) a 100 ft jump should take 2.49 seconds (t = sqrt[d/(1/2g)]). He seems to be airborne for barely half that time, so the distance would be way less than half of 100 feet. In the first second you only fall 16 feet, and 47 feet in the 2nd second.

Not that we could expect any better from the Daily Mail.

Timed it several times and came out to about 1.2 seconds

-4.9t^2 = 7.056m or 23 ft.

jump height = g*t^2/8

i downloaded the video. he jumped straight out and it took him just over 1.03 seconds to hit the water. using the equation above you want to double the time of 1.035 seconds as it is for a complete jump cycle where the takeoff and landing is the same elevation.

therefore...

5.25 meters = (9.8*2.07^2)/8

5.25 meters = 17 feet 3 inches approximately.

Mo has very small feet.

I timed it at 1.01 and then 4.55 at "25% speed," (16 and 20 feet respectively) from apex to hitting the surface (if you timed it from when he pushed off you started too early).

Either way, not sure why they even gave it credit for "probably less than 40 feet"? That's just unappreciative for how high a 40 foot jump would really look...

It was indeed a dumb move by Farah

as he could have easily slipped and hit the

rocks below. Notice how he runs a few steps forward

and needs to jump outwards (not just drop straight down)

in order to avoid coming too close to the rocks below.

If he had slipped during those running steps

he could have fallen and gotten badly hurt and

kissed his running goodbye.

I call BS on 100 feet as well, thats a 40 ft drop MAX

Considering that the few other guys near his level can do 1-10 pullups ON A SINGLE PINKY FINGER, I would wager "a lot".

25 feet, maybe 30 at most

35ft is the standard height of most high jump platforms in most college pools. There is no way Mobots jump was 100 feet maybe 100 baby feet.

Track Coach, the video is embedded in the article. It was clearly 15 feet TOPS. I don't know where 100 comes from, and I don't even know how people are eyeballing 30-50 feet.

Mo jumped probably 30 feet, 35 at the most. I've jumped 40-42 many times and this looks slightly lower.

Most disturbing is the fact that an article was written about this, and no one involved seemed to notice that this was nowhere near 100 feet.
