Its about time Galen overtook Bernard, but in addition to Galen runner better than ever he is also getting help from Father Time. Bernard's birthday was Dec 12 and is now 39. Galen will be 28 this May.

There are women kicking faster than the third-place finisher here.
Past indoor nationals u have rupp who's in great form and lagat who's rounding into shape... the race then typically favors lagat cuz its slow and he drops a sick last 200 and rupp suffers in alb.
but i think this yr will be different. seeing how strong rupp is along with the speed he has will make him hard to beat. remember he's sharpening for that mile WR attempt so best believe that will carry over into USAs. Rupp has never peaked for indoor season this way but becuase this is an off year he's doing it for the record attempts and World Indoors second.
Seeing rupp come back and out kick lagat last yr in the OD 5000m was what i needed to see to convince me that rupp isn't afraid of lagat anymore and believes he can beat him on any given day. If rupp runs a solid pace in alb lets say 7:45ish since its altitude, then still can drop a sub 26 last 200m then he'll destroy lagat. You gotta beat lagat at his own game you can't try to come up with a different strategy, outkick his ass thats what you have to do. Alan webb did it a ton in 2007 and lagat was a lot younger then.

I'm pretty confident Rupp will be too strong for Lagat at this point. If Lagat pops 7:30 or something he might be in game, but Rupp certainly appears to be the better miler than Lagat and also has superior fitness at 3k unless Lagat really rounds in to form.

Are you familiar with the sport of middle/long-distance running?
Do you realize that not all races have to be fast?
Do you realize that assessing someone's fitness from a race result is totally random?
What if the race had gone out at 5:18 for 2km and Lagat had finished with a 2:20 last km and 53 last 400m?

Do you consider that people watch races before they comment on them? Race was very even pacing, and 1k was reached in 2:31, 2k in 5:04. Lagat had fallen off well before the 2k mark. He did not look strong.

maybe instead of saying Lagat looked mediocre I would have said that "it was a tactical affair but Lagat closed really strongly. He is clearly looking like he is still a contender for world indoors"

Sure Einstein, if he closed so fast, why did he come in a lowly 4th place finish, more than 2 seconds off the lead? I'd say he got spanked, just like you should, now bend over and take it like a man!

Tons of Americans, especially at shotput. My grandmother could out shotput Lagat, and she's still just rounding into form because she's likes to compete her way into shape and let 3 people finish ahead of her as motivation for future competitions.

Dang, a slip up! I said my grandmother "could", not did, however i forget to add the "could" qualifier for Americans in general.
Still, if Lagat had qualified for the 15 in London, he would have gotten waxed by Manzano and Centro. And Rupp was only 2.05 seconds behind him in the 5, a few days after winning silver in 10.
And although it's true that no Americans have currently beaten Lagat in Olympics/WC, both Bekele's have been beaten by an American (guess who) and Bekele's have beaten Lagat numerous times, ergo...
Not bad for a guy who was convicted of taking drugs in the past..

Are you mentally ill? Hr dropped his indoor pr by 5.3 seconds last year not 10. Then there is the fact he had only run an indoor mile once since 2010....then there is the fact he ran 8:09 in 2012...so unlikely 3:56 was his max when that happened. Get a clue.

As much as I like Lagat, Rupp just seems like he is in monster form and on the upslope on his career, and I am not sure if Lagat will be or cares to be by the times USAs or World Indoors comes up. If kicking is an issue, then Rupp has the recent PRs to outrun him gun to tape.
When has Rupp ever run from gun to tape in a competitive championship race?
