Webb confirms he's no longer being paid by Nike - is now being coach by Jon Marcus

Bowerman Athletic Club is not made of solely of Nike Employees. There are no salaries paid by them and no free gear. He probably still gets free gear if he needs it,but it's not a contract thing,it's more because of his connections at Nike.B.A.C is just an affiliation. His wife has been running for B.A.C all year and now that he's unsponsored and yet still has a ton of Nike gear,it's the logical choice.

Webb shouldn't have ever left Al Sal.....he ran 3:35 in March under him and then up and dropped him....

Never shoulda have left Raczko, he beat Ritz in the 10k under him AND ran the A.R. in the mile; although, he did suffer from the injury bug during this period.

When I started this thread I wanted it to be a Webb appreciation thread before L.R. jacked it from me, so I'd like to bring it back to that. I for one believe that Webb is NOT done and he has a shot in the 5/10,000m for Rio 2016. He honestly needs to get the eye of the tiger back, maybe the married life and fatherhood has taken that away forever, and if so there's no shame in that… I guess I'm kind of crestfallen that Nike has given up on Webb and Schumacher as well. He is still the greatest taken EVER to come out of this country. I still believe in Alan Webb.

I think Alan's demeanor in that video was in-line with where he is. He is targeting a race like Millrose which is right where his mind should be.

Alan Webb is part of the deep bench of american middle distance runners. Rio 2016 is crazy talk right now but running in high quality domestic meets is exactly where he should be. If he pops a top-5 world time in one of these domestic meets, then we can start speculating about Rio.

Quit being so Olympic-centric; that's a tiny window to get in and many quality runners can be successful without it.

I'm pretty sure it was the other way around. Webb was the one who couldn't stick with a coach, and Nike was way too generous to keep him on payroll for as long as they did. If there's one thing you can believe in, it's Alan Webb...and his impending choke. (see what I did there?)

I can't shake the suspicion of PED use VERY early (in HS and intermittently thereafter). Maybe it's just the ups-and-downs of an injury-prone runner which give him that guilty/haunted vibe, but when he can't get within 5-7 seconds of his PBs even when training with the best coaches I can't help but feel he's trying to prove now that he can do it clean.

Maybe ask Steve Ovett or Steve Cram about that 1989 and beyond. They were 33 and 28 at that point but were shadows of their former selves. People get injured and can't get healthy long enough to get in shape again. It is not some mystery wrapped in an enigma. Just look at German Fernandez. He is young and even he can't get it together. Nothing to do with drugs.

From what I heard, he was slated to make half of what he made last year on his Nike contract. Probably an option year. So, its likely that Webb left on his own, rather than Nike letting him go. If so, he obviously thinks that he's worth more. I say good on him. At least he's putting the pressure on himself to run faster and secure a sponsor offer bigger than Nike's. Will he be successful ? Maybe or maybe not - but I think that its good that he's got the confidence to put himself out there and give up guaranteed money for a chance at more. On the other, that hasn't worked out so well for Leo.

Is 4:02 where he needs to be this time of year ? Not even close. But I like that he's putting himself out there as a free agent, and he knows that the only way that the market will respond is if he runs fast.

I just can't see Webb making a successful comeback at this point. I think he really needs to consider moving on at this point to another career field.

Less pressure now without the contract. He is ok money wise for the next couple of years. Nike is $30 billion dollar company , bonus $ , travel , free shoes and gear is not a big deal , his agent has a strong stable of runners and can leverage him into bigs meets as he has done with Milrose ( agent is in charge of Milrose )

I see him running back to a top 5 US ranked position , 1500 , 5k... this year , maybe better , remember he has 10k legs as well...

There is no contract, therefore no shoes, gear, or travel money. His coach is with BAC so he gets a free singlet. That's it.

For all the dreamers out there - Webb is heading out into the world with no education and no job experience. His wife doesn't work and he has a kid to support. Nobody makes a career out of running anymore.
