Nick Symmonds new shoe deal to be announced at 1 pm ET - Update has signed with Brooks!!

Nike better watch out! Brooks is up and coming! I'd like to see them get better distance runners in the 5-10k range; mainly men's.

1. If Nike wanted Nick then he would be with Nike.

2. This is a case of be careful what you wish for.

3. Brooks will not be happy when Nick decides to set the Agenda, even when it differs from his sponsor.

4. Nick is not a company man. Nick is a Nick man.

Just curious- where did Nick train when he was with OTC Elite- Eugene and ???? He said he would be in Seattle for SOME training, but due to needing warm weather and altitude he'd largely be training elsewhere. Aren't the other Brooks Beasts based in Seattle and therefore mostly training there?

I don't know that I agree that Nike dropped Nick, but I DO think this is a case of Nick following the money (above all else). I agree with the other poster that I am interested to see how this new training situation works out. It doesn't sound ideal, tbh.

Nick Symmonds definitely embodies a BEAST. Brooks basically just sought out the USA's #1 beast.

I understand this is a big deal for this board, but why is it a big deal for Brooks? How many times a year will he race with the Brooks logo?

He is black listed from some Diamond Meets.

He will wear the Nike USA uniform in WC and Olympics.

He provides nothing on the roads.

My issue with Nick is he is a phony. He does things solely for publicity. I think Brooks is making a mistake, because of his personality I will avoid Brooks shoes at all costs. I can't stand fake people who will sell their souls for a buck

Why would he want to be coached by Danny Mackey instead of Rowland? Makes no sense. His career will go downhill from here.

He's pretty good in my opinion. What has he done wrong other than be a professional and promote himself?

He's not running dog fights, not smashing up his cars, not in trouble, etc...

If he starts doing things like 30 marathons in 30 days, I'll stop being a fan. At least he is committed to running fast.

I will buy Brooks if they make the shoes I want end of story.

The problem with shoe companies is they sometimes "worsify" shoes. Like the following examples:

NB890V3--> NB890V4 (added 3mm of drop!)

Asics Hyperspeed 4(perfect lightweight marathon/trainer shoe) --> Hyperspeed 5(too narrow) --> Hyperspeed 6(too much rocker)

They want you to stock up on old shoe models. They worsify shoes on purpose.

What if you had just done really well (silver medal) at work and your current company didn't want to pay you more, but you liked your boss? Then, another company came and offered you more money and you felt this was the last high paying job you'd ever have was? You think you'd stay because you liked your boss?

Running is a job. Nike didn't want to pay Nick what he's worth so he went to Brooks.

Here's an idea for Nick Symmonds since he is an entrepreneur.

Create the first shoe company that NEVER changes shoe models. Always have the same shoe available even if it is a special order. If they make the right shoe, he'd have loyal customers for life.

If my success at my job depended heavily on the quality of my boss I would give such a move very deep thought. I would chase the fast money and risk my career.

We have seen this before with Jeremy Wariner. He made a coaching change and was never the same. Do you think he made or lost money in that deal? I'm sure Nick is smarter than that but it is a risky move.
