Why is the North West so embracing of Pseudoscience and snake oil salesmen?

Why is the original poster the only person in America who calls it the "North West" when everyone from ages 5 on up calls it the Northwest or Pacific Northwest?

Seriously, in all my years I've never seen it written "North West" ... are you really that clueless? And you're calling others out?

Beer drinkers call it Northwest.

Interestingly, one of the Northwest's most revered citizens, Steve Jobs, died because he tried to pursue a quack recipe for curing cancer. Ultimately, he turned to modern medicine, but he may still be alive today if he hadn't waiting so long.

What you did is an example of how not to post, or at least a shtty way of doing so. Much better would be to say I believe you have no idea what you are talking about, please summarize and link me to some literature that gives support to your claims.

First, there is already precedence for "biolgical immortality". Let me clarify biological immortality does not mean that an organism cannot die, but rather a stable rate of mortality from cellular senescence that does not increase with age. An "immortal" organism can still catch a disease and die, get devoured by a predator etc. In any event, there are already organisms that are biologically immortal such as certain flatworms, jellyfish, and lobsters.

So the question then becomes "what exactly causes aging in humans"? Their are many different ideas, and this is the big question. Things like telomere length, accumulation of oxidative damage, and genetics in general all likely have their role.

Another interesting piece is that some recent research suggests that humans do not age past early 90s. Unfortunately, at that point mortality is near 50%, and obviously near everyone reaching that age is old and frail. Finding ways, whether enviromental or genetic, to bring this age of cessation of aging down to 50s 40s, 30s, etc has potential. A decent overview of this would be "Does Aging Stop"

Though, to be honest in order for me to respond to you well I'd need to know what exactly you take issue with that makes you say I am "talking out of my ass". Otherwise, I have to address everything about aging period.

In other words...where do you take issue? With the concept that it is possible to stop/reverse aging? With the idea that we will develop the technology necessary for the molecular level of engineering (likely) needed to do this?

He didn't die because he turned to an alternative form of "curing" cancer. He died because cancer took too much of his force vitale.

Same part of the country the gave us Nike--all hype, no substance, no integrity, all about getting joggers to spend $200 for air max that does worse than nothing for them. Outside of Redmond (Microsoft) and U Washington, they're just as dumb as Duck Dynasty (but the opposite side politically) up there.

I'm actually a little curious if you called it "talking out of your ass" because it sounds like science fiction, or because you have a good understanding of gerontology and have logical reasons for believing radical life extension/biologic immortality will be exceptionally difficult to achieve.

Listen, I can't stand Nike either, but is there really anything about Nike that is unique to the Pacific Northwest? They're really just a regional thing? Nike couldn't have happened in New York, or LA, or the Midwest?

Not buying it. The burn, cut, and dope approach very rarely works. Yes, it may enable some to live a little longer, but the quality of life is so miserable that death is a welcome relief. For those that appear to be cured with conventional treatments, those typically are less serious cancers that could be cured with a variety of natural treatments.
