The IAAF presently has Webb ranked #11, while they have Meb at #9 and Broe at #48. All the guy did was run the fastest mile ever by an American on US soil. I imagine that this year Krummenacker would be quite happy to have "sucked" like Webb.
El Guerrouj ran 3:33 at age 20 and 3:31 at age 21.
If Webb wins one more big race he could sneak into the IAAF top ten.
If Webb had run strictly for time this year he could have run 3:31 in the right race. It looks as though Webb is on course to eventually run 3:26, maybe faster, and he does want it, which is half the battle.
1/2 the battle? I'd say that's not even close to getting to the battle.
If 1/2 the battle was "wants" then every poster on this board would be 1/2 way through this "battle" to being a 3:26 1500m runner.
Webb's got good talent, but let's not put him in 3:26 till he's broken 3:30 (which he's got the tools to) but after breaking 3:30 you've still got a good amount of time to get to the 3:26 range...
Then again what do I know...I don't have the "wants" to run 3:26, just the "wants" to do other events.

Fast Fact:
In 1982 the US had 3 active sub 3:50 milers. Of course they were Steve Scott, Jim Spivey, and Sidney Maree.
not true at all. spivey didn't run sub 3:50 until 1986 (3:49.80 @ Bislett; he also ran it again in 1991 3:49.83 @ Bislett)
what made Steve Scott become so good?!!!!!!! he was by no means a high school prodigy. The impossible happens all the times!!!!! You just have to go after it.
It's been a long year for him, it's a good time to take a break and also school probably started.
Hey, even ElG decided not to race post-Olympics after cancelling at Brussels.
ElG - 5races, succeeded in achieving all he wanted to.
Webb - 1race, devestated.
I think webb has abit more to run for after the olympics than ElG does.
Jealousy will never get you there.
"Webb's got good talent"
How many high school runners have run 3:53.4 for the mile, I believe you know the answer, don't you.
We don't know what his peaking strategy was. If he tried to peak for the US OT and hold it for the OG, this might explain what happened in the qualifying heat, and he would have no choice but to go home and rebuild his base. I suspect that he wants to use xc season for base building for next year, and that would be more important than 1 or 2 more summer races, especially if he wants to do indoors.
In the past, they have been very good at peaking at the right time, so I suspect that what happened at the OG was something that they had to learn. Dont's think either of them had been there before.
