what did the chimp do to the guy? they say (actually, richard preston in the hot zone said this) a 10 lb chimp's equal to a 180 lb man.

It would be just tiger against 10 big guys. What strategy might they use?
They might lose a few guys, and have a few more with serious injuries, but the NFL players would be able to kill the tiger. For strategy, they would all have to attack the tiger with reckless abandon, and put two guys on each leg and hold it down. Once they have it secure, start slamming its head on the ground until you knock it out. Then keep banging the head until it is dead.

When I was in the Army (1967) I was stationed at Ft Gordon, Georgia and witnessed the following at a traveling carnival:
A carney had a cage with a 90 pound (estimate) chimpanzee inside. The chimp had a face mask that kept it from using his teeth and his hands and feet covered with gloves.
The carney said that he would pay anyone who could stay in the cage for three minutes a certain amount of money. (I can't remember the amount)
One of the largest, toughest soldiers from Ft. Gordon took a turn in the cage and was screaming to be let out within 30 seconds.
Wild animals are unbelievably fast and strong.
Also, there is the fact that ten guys would just get in each others way.
There's no way that they would even be able to pin a large tiger, let alone kill it.
You don't see that kind of thing any more.
Monkeys/gorillas and, by extrapolation, wild animals are stronger (to a different degree) than human. I was at a gorilla enclosure several years ago and a silverback gorilla went from zero to full-speed in the span of 15 yards, slamming shoulder first into the glass divider (which I swear, shook the building), and walked away like nothing happened.
He was aiming for me and had that wall not been there I probably would have taken the equivalent of a car-hit to the mid-section.
My point, as previously mentioned, is that animals are significantly stronger than humans.
My money is on the tiger.
Step 1: full rush by players which tiger jumps/avoids while taking-out/landing-on 1
Step 2: In the confusion of where he went, tiger takes out another 2 (7 left)
Step 3: One nearby player grabs a leg; tiger's superior flexibility allows paw attack and kill (6 left)
Step 4: Tiger roars
Step 5: more of less repeat Step 1 but with 6 guys

Animal lovers might start doing the same thing to the NFL players after they witness this. And don't think 10 animal lovers can't take out one NFL player.
better question -
could 10 CrossFiters take down a tiger?
CrossFiters are RIPPED and SHREDDED
Lets not forget - FUNCTIONAL strength
The soldier was closer to 250 pounds and in incredible shape. I don't think most people realize how fast and powerful wild animals really are.
One swipe from a large tiger would totally disable any human, no matter how large he is. And a tiger isn't going to swipe once and look around for his next victim, he would continue his merciless assault uninterrupted.
A hundred football players couldn't take down a large tiger. Only a certain number of players would be able to be close enough to even touch him at any given time.
Look at it this way: If the tiger is 8 feet long and the average player 2 feet wide, that would be 4 players on each side and one in front and one in back...that's only 8 players.
Once the tiger has dispatched those 8 players another 8 players could move in to meet their bloody end.
Have you ever been to a zoo and seen how large tigers actually are?
Have you ever played with a kitten and seen how fast they are?
Do the NFL players have their helmets?

Interesting. I still wonder if 10 huge guys might have a chance. Could you imagine the video. Horrific
In response to jjjjjjj;
The cage was about 12 ft by 12 ft and maybe 10 ft tall.
The chimp couldn't bite or claw because of the face guard and gloves.
The chimp bounced off the walls of the cage with incredible speed and battered the badass soldier with it's gloved hands. The chimp would wrap up the soldier, let him go then batter him again...almost playing with him.
It was an amazing thing to see.
This was in the South 46 years ago. Someone mentioned that you don't see shows like that anymore. He's right...it's not PC.
This was a gloved and masked 90 pound chimpanzee, I can't imagine what a 500 pound tiger would be capable of doing.
Have you seen any videos of lions taking down a water buffalo? I'm pretty sure that tigers are larger and more powerful than lions.
These guys aren't NFL, but...
I don't know what would happen but I would pay a large amount of money to see it happen.
If the tiger was elderly and the players were good a The Take-Out Game, yes.
No contest. Tigers are made to kill, and come with great weaponry, and are programmed to use it. They don't cognate, they are totally dedicated. No fear, no doubt, no hesitation. They KILL just to stay alive.
10 humans, no weaponry, no chance. A handful of normal people with primitive weaponry like spears with obsidian heads, chance--but even then they will take heavy, if not complete losses, would need special tactics and lots of luck, and superior coordination among them.
Primitive weapons were most likely only defensive against large carnivores such as a tiger, and were probably employed defensively, to bluff the tiger away.
Ditto to everybody saying how strong and quick wild animals are...but most of all, merciless.
Even the great Stan couldn't win against the Anaconda.
Thank-you, Mutual of Omaha.
I'm going with the tiver, here are some facts:
The tiger (Panthera tigris) is the largest cat species, reaching a total body length of up to 3.3 m (11 ft) and weighing up to 306 kg (675 lb).
Even with their great masses, tigers can reach speeds of about 40 MPH in short bursts.
Tigers have great leaping ability; horizontal leaps of up to 10 m (33 ft) and 5 m (16.5 ft) vertically.
They can kill healthy adults of large bovids weighing at least 1,000 kg (2,200 lb).
Tigers have been recorded to kill prey by swiping with their paws, which are powerful enough to smash the skulls of cattle and break the backs of bears.
Paw swipe force of a tiger is estimated around 10,000 lbs of force. A large male tiger when enraged is estimated around 18,000 lbs.
The bite force of a tiger is over 1000 pounds per square inch (450 kg of force). Canines have been measured up to 5 inches long.

basically, no.
Could ten 25 lb dogs kill you? No, you'd kick and smash them before any serious injury happened to you.
Easily. It only takes a quick bite to the neck and you're pretty much done for.

So one swipe could probably throw 2-3 of these men in the air while breaking their skulls/backs/knocking them unconscious. Nevermind that there are 5 daggers attached to each paw.
This is no contest.
The trouble with this scenario is that nobody would want to be the first. The tiger would be killing people faster than the rest could pile on.
There is a video of a Leopard leaping into a herd of passing Wildebeest and it takes two down in about five seconds.
A tiger is going to make even faster work of a bunch of football players.
Remember what happened to those guys that taunted the tiger at the zoo.
The equivalent of 500lbs of mosquitoes in a sealed room would kill 10 nfl linebackers .
I would like to see 5 Timber wolves with rabies, vs NFL loud mouth Cris Carter.

Doubtful
What about 10 Bruce Lees or other martial arts experts? Are not some of the Asian martial arts specifically designed to combat tigers?
Besides, I hope that tigers will soon become extinct. They are foul and nasty animals and without them the world will be a far better place.
